Types of Auto Auctions 

There are many varieties of car auction formats, but they can all be categorized as one or more of the following major types of auto auctions according to:

- Location: local vs. online

- Access: public vs. restricted to a type of car dealer

- Content: clean cars (off-lease, off-rental, company/fleet, trade-ins, etc.) vs. insurance (total loss) vs. police seized cars

Cars are also sold at estate auctions.
