The Cook's Nook

Like to Cook? Like to Eat? Maybe Dish a little?
Well, sit yourself down and prepare for a feast of recipies, restaurant reviews, food selection and storage, nutrition, kitchen gadgets, cooking and baking tips galore!

I'll admit here that I'm much more of a cook than a baker. Though I really appreciate all those fantastic baked goods, baking itself usually requires too much precision for my spontaneous cooking nature. Something about having to measure it all out each and every time just cramps my style, but I do have a few "standards" (like cornbread- even got that one memorized) that allow a greater margin for improvisation...or error. (Yep- that looks like a tablespoon! Sure that's a quarter of a cup- or close enough...) If you are into "Precision Cooking" Check out the RSS for "Cooking for Engineers"-- great stuff!

Measuring Up: Cooking Conversions

Metric or Standard or Imperial?

We're on the World Wide Web here, and that means different standards of measurement for many of our readers!

When measurements go beyond Low, Medium and High or a pinch or a dash or 1 part to 2 parts, we may need some help with converting from one system of measure to another.

LENSMASTERS-
Please be sure to note "F" or "C" for temperatures in recipes.

This will help readers know when & how to make conversions.

Handy conversion links:
Butter Measure Conversions
(Gram, Stick, Cup, Ounce or Tablespoon)
Common Cooking Volumes Conversion (Litre, Cup or Hogshead. Really!)
Oven Temperature Conversion (Celcius, Fahrenheit or Gas Mark)

Hey, what a great looking pantry! My first ever lens was going to be my gourmet frozen pizza recipe... but I have procrastinated for let's see... 2 years so far! =) I did just create a fun and fanciful tea lens I am rather excited about - Unique Tea Blends - enjoy some crazy concoctions and whimsical warbling.

I added a cookbook to the plexo, a kids' cookbook that I still love. My son is using it in the picture on my recipes lens. He's all grown up now, but he still enjoys that cookie recipe!
