How Did You Get Into Fiber Arts?
Tell us your story!I have loved sewing and embroidery since I was a kid. I did a lot of quilting when my kids were small, and I've been an avid machine knitter and teacher since 1998. I have traveled to Africa to help start womens work cooperatives with knitting machines, and I speak publicly about the need for more of these cooperatives in developing countries.

I began to sew when my grandmother taught me how to sew at the age of five. We made quilt tops for my 3 brothers and 3 sisters. From this introduction to fiber arts I began to teach myself and search out others to teach me other arts. I learned how to crochet when I was 8 by watching my aunt then I learned knitting in the same way. When I discovered cross-stitch I loved it. I made many items from patterns and kits then I started changing the patterns to fit my needs or color requirements. Then I started designing my own patterns with color pencils and grid paper. When computers came along I started use them. I now use grid paper and the computer.

my mom sewed everything, clothes, costumes, dolls, gift items, you name it, she taught me to sew when I was 6, and than when I was 14 I took a 2 year collage course in fashion design and patternmaking, and later took up all forms of embroidery-needlpoint-crossstitch, and now today I make my own patterns for costumes and sew them and embelish them with embroidery
