Girl Scout Headquarters

This will be a group where we can share ideas for Girl Scout leaders and/or parent volunteers.

Girl Scouting can be the magic thread which links the youth of the world together. - Juliette Gordon Low

Girl Scout Headquarter's Guidelines

- Your lens must relate to Girl Scouts, Fund Raising for Non-Profits, or lens that could be useful to a Girl Scout troop (ideas for crafts, etc.)
- Your lens must be completed, i.e. no empty modules, or modules with default titles, and it must have an intro photo.
- Your lens must contain original written content. Lens that are nothing but retail modules will be rejected.

Be warned! I will be extremely picky about accepting lenses to ensure that they will be useful to leaders or volunteers to help them with their Girl Scout troop.

Girl Scouts is...

Truly ours is a circle of friendship, united by our ideals.

Girl Scouting Changes...

I

realize that each year it has changed and grown until I know that, a decade from now, what I might say of it would seem like an echo of what has been instead of what is."

Do you have a challenging Scout? Do you have a mom who won't let their daughter camp without them? What are your solutions to some of these problems? Please share your tips!

Once, my service team leader told me that she was having discipline issues in her meetings. She asked the girls to come up with rules and consequences, which she wrote down and brought to every meeting. THen, when the girls misbehaved they knew the consequences (sitting in the hall, and so on) and they were consequences that the girls came up with. She said that the girls were MUCH tougher on themselves than she would have been and it worked like a charm. keep us posted!

Lemonsqueezy great suggestion! I passed the suggestion onto our "challenged" leader! I also suggested that she ask the girls to come up with rules for the meetings.I also suggested that she talk to the parents - start positive and ask how she does in other group settings. Sometimes parents can have insight on how their daughter enjoy the meetings more. I also suggested a Challenge course for the troop - a team experience. Also re-working on the GS Law (respect) can refocus everyone. There are a ton of ideas - but sometimes when we are in the middle of "it" we can't see the forest for the tree that is right in front of us - and we are wondering why it won't move! Thanks again for your suggestion! Anyone else!

I wish that I had all the right answers. Our service team leader is wonderful and I have always gone to her for help with these issues. She always leads me down the right path. Could you ask for your service team leader's advice?

We have a leader that has a "challenging" scout in her troop. The scout wants to control and dominate everything. The other girls are frustrated with her actions in the troop. Please help our fellow Girl Scout Leader with your tips/suggestions! I know you have it in you!

I always wanted my daughter to join the Girls Scouts, but she didn't - she wanted to play basketball instead.
Anyway, I think my children's library project would make a good community project for your troops. check it out at www.squidoo.com/dyharris
