M B makes a bad design and will not own up to it!

I have a new 2009 SLK350 with bout 1,000 miles. The GPS system circuit boards are "fried". The reason.....the cup holder sits above the GPS system and MB did not put a shield on it in case there was a liquid spill. I hit a rough bit of road and coffee came out of the hole in the lid. It dripped into the GPS.

MB says the component was good. I agree. It is the design that is bad. I did not spill the coffee. the car did it! They want $6,000 to replace the part and when I ordered it new it only cost $2,500. Not only are they denying their engineering mistake but they are overcharging big time.

What can I do to convince them they are in the wrong. By the way I have been a customer for over forty years with at least one and as many as four MB's every three years for myself and others in y companies. It's not that I'm not used to high quality cars and issues that arise. But this time is the first time M B is stonewalling on an issue.
