Holland - aka The Netherlands

For lenses about the Netherlands: that country that contains Amsterdam...

Dutch people themselves call the country Nederland - and the closest English equivalent is 'The Netherlands' (which is a literal translation of the older way of referring to our collection of states: De Nederlanden). Holland was the biggest province (or state) in the Netherlands - and the most powerful one. For this reason it came to stand for the whole country - a bit like foreigners will refer to England, meaning the whole of the UK.

Katinka - thanks for accepting and featuring my lenses in your Netherlands group. We had a great time visiting so it was a pleasure putting together my Keukenhof gardens and Amsterdam lenses. AT some point, I'd like to write one about our tour of the entire country....if only there were more than 24 hours in a day:) Anyway, terrific group!

Good Morning, Katinka -- I have my two lenses ready to submit to your group. They are a twist for your group; I'm not sure if they will fit your mandate as they are about The Canadian Tulip Festival. However, that festival came about because of a generous and continuing gift from the Dutch Royal Family and the enduring friendship between the Canadian and Dutch people that resulted from the Second World War. A Bloom of Friendship, celebrates a beautiful children's picture book and tells the story of the relationship between these two great groups of people.

If you feel that they are not quite what you want for your group, I will certainly understand but thank you for considering them.

Here you are again, another great group. I do not have a lens to submit right now but I will have one with a Dutch connection in the next while. I'll have to remember this group!
