About the Apple iPod

The Apple iPod quickly became synonymous with the term "portable music player," leaving competitors in the dust as it virtually defined the market itself. Since 2001, it has allowed its owners to store, sift through, and play their MP3 collections with its patented "click wheel." One of the most unique aspects of the Apple iPod is that it can be docked or plugged into many peripherals - including but not limited to stereo units, car audio systems and even alarm clocks.

The iPod also became available as the iPod Shuffle - a slimmer randomized music player without a screen, but with a more simplistic interface, and the Nano - a tinier, slimmer version of the music player.

The viral nature of the iPod led to its astounding sales of 110 million units sold, between October 2001 and September 2007. Continuing on down the product line, the new Apple iPod Video 5.5 model offers a vivid, full screen view with greater storage for videophiles.
