FIND OUT ABOUT FAMOUS ARTISTS

This group is for hand-made lenses which focus on providing information about traditional and modern artists who are notable.

To be included:

* an artist must be NOTABLE and well known with work included in major museums and art galleries and
* the lens needs to be HAND-BUILT by somebody with a degree of expertise in finding information and art generally

In other words, ticking boxes as part of automated lens construction alone will not get your site into this group. If you think you'd like to submit your lens check out more information about the entry criteria at the end

Find out about Famous Artists

How to get your lens included in this group

Applications to join the group are encouraged - but please read the criteria for inclusion (in the last module at the bottom of the page).

I'm looking to include lenses from webmasters who can find information about famous artists under their own steam and like finding the sort of information which is not always easily gleaned from search engines which deliver 'popular' results.

'Famous' for the purposes of this group means recognised as prominent and notable by the major art world databases. Lenses which focus predominantly on the provision of information about prominent artists and famous can be included - subject to moderation. Criteria (see near bottom of page) will be refined as lens applications are reviewed. As a guide, this group will typically include artists similar to those already included.

Reasons why a lens might be excluded are also detailed in the criteria. Please note that this group is not for lenses which are used predominantly to market the artwork of individual contemporary artists who are not so well known - there are other Squidoo group for these artists.

In addition, squidwho lenses that predominantly feature automatic modules (Flickr; YouTube; etc) are very unlikely to be included.

Criteria for inclusion in "Artists we want to know more about"

What's in and what's not

Applications to join the group are encouraged.

Lenses which focus predominantly on the provision of information about prominent artists can be included - subject to moderation. Criteria will be refined as lens applications are reviewed. Typically the lens will include artists similar to those already included.

This group focuses on providing information rather than selling and consequently your request to join the group may be rejected if one of the following is applicable:
1) its scope falls outside the scope of this group
(see above)
2) the lens does not emphasise the provision of good quality information about artists covered by this group (ie the majority of content is non-commercial links)
3) the lens is not yet well developed - reapply when it is. This includes lens which contain mainly commercially oriented links.
4) the lens is predominantly about selling books and/or posters and prints of work by the artists included
5) the lens focuses mainly on marketing the work of a contemporary artist who is not yet recognised by the art world as a famous/prominent/notable/major artist. If I don't know an artist I use the major artist database sites to check status (this does not include Wikipedia). There are other groups on Squidoo for such artists - please consult the list of groups for Arts & Literature.
6) the lens belongs to a webmaster who has done little more than tick boxes which then deliver modules which are automatically generated. There is too little evidence of personal research and/or discrimination in the information and resources provided. In other words it could have been generated by a computer! This group will only feature lenses which show some evidence of assessment of available links and information.

Feedback will be provided to all lenses which fail to get admission for reasons other than as stated above.

In addition, if I'm not sure about whether your lens fits with others in the group, I'm likely to look at other lenses you have produced to see what they say about your interests and expertise.
