Alliance of Shopkeepers on CP

Alliance- merging of efforts or interests by persons, or organizations.

This group is not about promoting my cafepress shop. It is about partnering with other shopkeepers to collectively get more exposure. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

A True Partnership 

ASKCP is going to be different than a lot of the other Squidoo Groups out there for shopkeepers on cafepress. I, any of my friends, nor any other shopkeeper will not reap the benefits of membership more than any other member of the group.

Exposure is the key! Squidoo and sites like it are great ways to drive traffic to your shop. There are a lot of cafepress groups in the communities and much invaluable information for new and experienced SKs to learn from, however the lensmasters that publish that information are benefitting the most (in many circumstances) through the increased rankings and visits to their lenses and sites. This increased exposure, in turn, will place them higher in most search engine rankings, generating more hits on their shops.

What we are trying to do here is level the playing field. No one Squidoo lens or cafepress shop will be put above another. There will be no Plexo voting that rewards the sites that have been on the longest. Featured Lenses and Lensmasters will be rotated on a weekly basis.

How are we going to pull this off? Fairly simply I think.

ASKCP Membership will not be denied. Every shopkeeper will have one Suidoo lens accepted- whether you have been selling for three days or two and a half years. In return, you will be asked to visit every current members Squidoo lens and Favorite It, and post it to Twitter, del.icio,us, StumbleUpon and Digg (or any of the services you are registered with). In addition, you are asked to visit and post the member's CP shop itself and any CP related blogs linked to the Squidoo lens.

All of this should be completed in a reasonable amount of time and in return I, personally, will will do the same to you. You, as a member in good standing, then will need to return to the group's Website and "return the favor" for any new member that should have done the same to you as an existing member when they joined. Again, in a reasonable amount of time.

It all sounds a little to simple? Well... I think it is, but I think it is all legal and should benefit everyone equally as long as no one tries to take unfair advantage of everyone else. I'm sure it is going to take a certain amount of trust and I will try to keep an eye on things, but I really hope everyone follows the simple rules and no one gets the boot from the group.

So what are you waiting for? You scratch my back...

How to Promote Your Shop

Hey members,

There are a couple of things that have been brought to my attention that I feel it is very important that we address as a group. When I stared ASKCP, I felt that there was a need for a forum in which members could fairly and equally assist each other in cross-promotion of their cafepress shops and, for the most part, I think we have done that here as well as anywhere else.

There seems to be a misunderstanding, however, with some members, of what, exactly, this means or what is expected of them. I just wanted to take this time to clarify a few of the ground rules and give everyone a couple of weeks to rectify the situation.

- each member is allowed to submit one lens to the group.
- the lens' primary subject matter must be a cafepress shop.
- the cafepress shopkeeper must also be the lensmaster.
- all lens material must be G-rated.

I thought that all of this was spelled-out clearly but, apparently, it was not. We, sincerely, hope that every member can benefit from this group with increased exposure, visits, and sales, but we have to ask that all of these rules be followed by each member so we have a level playing field here.

Any lens or member that does not meet these guidelines will be eliminated from the group between 12/29 and 1/2. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

That is the first thing that is going to make this concept work-- that everything is equal and fair-- with no one member above any other. The next most important thing-- and a much harder one to fulfill-- is that every member participate in the group.

There has been and there always will be different levels of participation by different individuals in the group. What we ask of each member, though, is that they do what they can. This may mean (at least) visiting the lens and favorite it and giving it 5 stars or following the member on twitter, posting the shop on Facebook or anything else you can do to promote that member and their shop.

In a perfect world, that member is going to do the same for you. We all know that we do not live in a perfect world but, even if we only see one more visitor from the effort that we make-- that can make that effort worth it.

Even after initial contact, it is still a good idea to visit each other's lenses and cafepress shops from time to time. Besides helping others with page rankings, it may help give you inspiration for your own shop! I think it helps other shopkeepers to leave some words of encouragement in the comments section when you can-- Lord, knows we can all use some of that!
