Avoid Wrong Buys and Make Sure You'll Be Happy With Your Purchase

Buying an audio book does not seem to be rocket science, after all, you've bought books all your life, so buying an audio book can't be that difficult, right?

Well, there are a few aspects that make audio books different, but the one single factor that is really crucial, is the narrator. That's the person who reads the book for you and to whom you will have to listen for a few hours. So make sure it's a pleasant experience!

Choose a Narrators voice you like:

To be sure that the voice and reading style of the narrator agrees with your ideas, you must insist with the seller that he allows you to listen in to the audio. The easiest way to do this is when you're shopping for audio books on the internet: There are usually sound samples of a few minutes for every audio book, and you can listen and judge if this is what you're looking for. Most commercially sold audio books are narrated by professionals, actors and other people who have enjoyed voice and reading training.

Avoid computer generated audio

If you are using the open source sites, you can make some really great finds of books read by volonteers who do a great job too. But there are many not so great recordings...

Avoid the computer generated voice files. There is no soul in these voices and the narration is 'dead'. It's OK if you absolutely have to have a certain book in audio and there are no alternatives, but otherwise I'll go for a professionally edited and produced audio book read by human voice!
