A Compendium of Botanical Art
This group is for botanical artists and botanical art lovers. It features all botanical art related sites produced by Katherine Tyrrell / makingamark.
Some were artists who were associated with explorations and the discovery of new flora and fauna
* Marian Sybilla Merian journeyed to Surinam
* Sydney Parkinson was the botanical artist on board captain Cook's first voyage to South America, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia
* Ferdinand Bauer travelled around the Greek Islands and to Australia
* Margaret Mee travelled to the Brazilian rain forest to paint botanical specimens
Others documented flowers and plants within the domestic environment
* Basilius Besler documented the gardens at Eichstatt
* Franz Bauer drew the plants and flowers brought to the Royal Botanic gardens at Kew during a very important phase in its development
* Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to create a herbal
* Pierre Redoute documented the Empress Josephine's rose garden and other aspects of her famous garden at Malmaison
Botanical Gardens It also includes famous gardens in the history of botanical art - such as Kew Gardens and Malmaison
