The Climate Change Club. This is a group for people
that have something to say about all aspects of the subject known as Climate
Change. Join the group, use the talk back area, and add your Lens to the Climate Change Lens area. The News Feeds are updated often so came back soon and see how we are developing.

Re-organising my Climate Change website at Perob is taking a lot of time. If
you have time, take a look, pass comments and see how the voting is going on.
Climate Change is really happening, and there a thousand untold stories how it is effecting normal everyday people. Join the great debate, do something
positive today for future generations. You can add your group or Lens only if it is about Climate Change and Global Warming, this is not the place just to sell products. If you have never made anything on Squidoo, there is a help file below to get you started.

Welcome to the Climate Change Club

Call it what you want, climate change, global warming, pollution, the effect of greenhouse gases, air pollution, environmental damage, it all adds up to the same thing. The planet is facing a crises that the human population has created. Most of it since the year 1800.

The Kyoto Agreement or Protocol, was the first real effort by the world community to face upto the problems of Climate Change. It takes strong positive political will to sign the Kyoto Protocol, thank goodness the new Australian Prime Minister did that soon after taking office.

Shame on the American President for not signing Kyoto. The world looks forward to the next US President with the hope that they can see into the future, and save the planet from self destruction.

Why the American people are so important

Everybody knows that America consumes vast amounts of energy to achieve a wonderful life style. Consumption of this energy, most of which is fossil fuel based, cannot carry on at the present rate of consumption. Oil is going to run out over the next 10 years and probably reach $250 a barrel or more, great if you are an oil company or oil trader, but hard on everybody else. Lets face it, it is all about making as much money now and as fast as possible.

Coal is the worst polluter of all, but more power stations burning this fossil fuel are being built around the world. Build coal fired power stations, but only if there are no CO2 emissions. Hard, but not impossible.

None of the current polluters will change until forced to by public opinion, laws, or lack of resources. Why should they, they can make all the money they want without spending anything on the future. Great for the share holders.

The world needs America and the American people to be world leaders in conservation, environmentally friendly industries, reduce carbon emissions and set a good example for the world to follow. That is impossible at the moment as everything is drive by growth and big business.

Lets pray the next President is strong enough to sign the current Kyoyo agreement and set an example to the world.

Continued Growth is not possible.

We are told every year that the economy will grow by 3% or some other figure. Did you know this cannot continue year after year? Here are some calculations which are taken from an article in the English Guardian newspaper by George Monbiot,

1. Economists are predicting an average of 3% growth this century.

2. Every 23 years the economic activity will double.

3. So by the year 2100, global consumption will have reached 1,600%

4. By 2115 the total rises to 3,200%

5. This level of growth is not possible, even if you disagree with figures.

The question you should ask yourself, where are all the resources to meet this growth? Even if there was unlimited oil and gas supplies, the consumption would pollute the climate so much, we would all die of lack of oxygen.

What kind world of world would you like to see in 2050? It is said that 70% of the people alive today, will be around on that date. So it is also very important for you personally.

Raise awareness about climate change and turn out the lights this Saturday on March 29 at 8:00 p.m. for Earth Hour 2008. Getting people aware can make a difference.
