A Group Of Outstanding Mystery Book Reviews!

You know what? There are lots of lady authors out there who write about women who solve crimes!

In fact, those books are usually my favorite reading material.

Featured here are lenses that discuss books written by women about female detectives (professional and accidental). Exception: If a fictional female detective is exceptional--but is created by a male--I will allow that lens on this page. Thus I have included the Eleanor Roosevelt Mysteries!

I am SURE that there are more books and authors out there that even I have not heard of or read. So feel free to create a lens or submit one you already have! I am always up for a new book to read!

What a good lens needs to be included on my female detectives list:

Subject: girl detectives; Author: a woman mystery writer

1. Originality--fresh information and reviews

2. Original Module Titles--no generics allowed

3. Good grammar and spelling--it shows you care and took your time before you hit "publish"

4. I repeat: Women Detectives! Women authors (or sometimes men - if they are particularly worthy!)

Susan Wittig Albert--A Wonderful lady who authors mysteries!

Mickie_G is reading the China Bayles mystery books

I love the character of China Bayles who was created by Susan Wittig Albert.
Two things I like about this character are:
1. She is an independent lady who specializes in herbs-- and
2. She is featured in a series with lots of books!

I suggest that one reads them in order they were written. You can read the book slightly out of order, however, and not miss a beat. Each "mystery" that China gets involved in can stand by itself.

I really love Sue Grafton and Laura Lippman. For just plain fun, I read Evanovich and Diane Mott Davidson.

I am devoted to Martha Grimes. The odd (often humorous)relationship between her Scotland Yard Detective Richard Jury and his friend - rich, eccentric ex-Lord Melrose Plant- is what keeps me yearning for the next book in that series. She is a great writer, and I will follow these two characters wherever they go. PD James and Elizabeth George are also modern favorites. For classic female mystery writers of any era, you can't beat Dorothy Sayers. Her Harriet Vane character in the Peter Wimsey series is an independent, feminist heroine in an age where that was definitely not the acceptable norm.
