Giving Back/Altruism Group

Giving back is a way of doing good for others, for humanity and for the planet. It is a way of expressing your gratitude.

The purpose of the Giving Back / Altruism Group is to focus on lenses about organizations, groups or people that are giving back to others. Also included in the Giving Back Group are lenses on the benefits of giving back, gratitude or altruism.

Requirements for Joining

1. The first requirement for membership in the Giving Back Group is that the lens is about Giving Back, about an organization giving back or a person (living or dead) who gives back.

2. The second requirement is that more than 10% of the proceeds from the lens submitted are donated to charity.

3. The third is giving back to other members of the group, visiting the lenses in the group and by expressing your gratitude for what your fellow lensmasters are creating.

The Inspiration behind the Giving Back Group 

Two lenses created in the early part of April 2008 were the inspiration behind the Giving Back / Altruism Group.

The first was one that I created for Idol Gives Back. The second was one created by Bonnie Diczhazy's (bdkz) lens for her Squidoo Charity Challenge.

These two lenses helped me realized just how many of the lenses I've created for other organizations, or groups, or people who are giving back to others.

It also helped me think about how many of the lenses that I have are giving back to others.

Creating the Giving Back / Altruism Group was the next logical step.

Benefitting Global Giving and The Squidoo Charity Fund 

The Giving Back Group fittingly benefits Global Giving, an organization helping others around the world to unleash the potential of people around the world to make positive change happen.

The Giving Back Group also fittingly benefits the Squidoo Charity Fund. The Squidoo Charity Fund is for people who want to donate their royalties to charity, but can't make a decision where to send them. This is the default payment setting on all new lenses. We choose a different charity (or charities) every few months month to receive these funds and announce where the money goes on the SquidU forum.

Past Squidoo Charity Fund recipients have included the Acumen Fund, Donors Choose, The California Community Fund, JDRF, Room to Read, Tides Foundation, Veterans for America, Modest Needs, Kiva, Save the Children, The American Heart Association, A Day of Hope and many many more.
