Stop Being A Fool

Ranked #9,154 in Education, #207,997 overall

can you stop being a fool? have you ever been the fool?

We've all been there. Taken for a fool, duped, made to look stupid. Usually we live and learn and sometimes we don't. So how do we lead a duped free life?

Often we can rely on the wisdom of elders, parents and friends, sometimes we can learn from the mistakes of others. Why do we need the advice? Well the world is full of hustlers and scammers, silver tongued beguilers and people who get their kicks by making other people look the fool.

Don't Get Fooled By The Shadows

Platos Cave

People have been fooled for thousands of years. Greek philosopher Plato knew this and came up with a story which is called the Allegory of the Cave to explain how it happens.

In a nutshell he tells of a a group of people who live in cave with their backs to the entrance and a fire between them and entrance casts shadows on the wall they are looking at.

The shadows are their reality but of course they are merely representations. When one of them goes outside the cave he sees reality but has a tough job to convince his friends that what he has seen is real.

The Trickster

Carl Jung identified The Trickster as one his four basic archetypes or universal forms that are basic templates of the way life is organised.

Almost every culture has their 'trickster', that mischevious spirit who befuddles and confounds the mortal world.

Examples in Western culture include Loki and Puck the character in Midsummer Night's Dream. Native Americans regard the Coyote as the trickster and the wily fox is also seen in this way too.
