My Personal History of Casting

I have been casting metal for about 10 years, more or less. I got started because I wanted to make an Anchor for our fish tank. I never have gotten around to doing that project!

I like to make things myself to get things cheaper and (hopefully) better quality. I started out making a furnace from a freon cannister. I built it so that it could use charcoal right away and could also use propane when I got my burner built. Charcoal is the quick way to get started. All you need is a blower, (a lot of people use a vacuum cleaner), and the furnace. It doesn't take much air to get nice and hot either.

I have cast using the lost foam process, sand casting, lost wax, and investment casting. Most of what I have done is just for fun but I have made some parts for locks that were antiques and no longer available.. (I am a locksmith by trade)
