Welcome to the Menopause and Menopausal Weight Gain Group!
A Message from the Groupmaster
First of all, thank you for your interest. As one of the women who has experienced menopausal weight gain (40 pounds in my case!) I was looking for a Squidoo group on the subject. However, despite dozens of groups on diets and weight loss, etc, and a few on the menopause, I was unable to find a group specifically for menopausal weight gain.For me, the weight gain was my worst symptom of the menopause. I tried everything I could think of in order to lose it. However, if YOU have menopausal weight gain, you will know how difficult it is to lose. The diets which had worked for me when I was younger just didn't work for me after I reached the menopause. Yes, I did lose a few pounds here and there, but then my weight would plateau, no matter what I did. I was on the point of giving up when I discovered a new online diet and decided to give it a go. I couldn't believe the fast results. I'm still on it and, so far, I have lost 16 pounds in 7 weeks. So I'm thrilled about that.
This group is about sharing our experiences of the menopause - especially menopausal weight gain - and about what helped and what didn't. Hopefully other women won't have to go through so much wasted time of trial and error as I did!

One of the main reasons for menopausal weight gain is indeed hormone imbalance. Another main reason is that the metabolic rate slows down at this time. This means that, if a woman continues to eat the same amount, and do the same amount of exercise, she will gain, on average, at least 1 pound a year. That may not sound like a lot, but, because this weight tends to settle around the abdomen, even a small increase in weight can result in an increase in dress size, and also results in a "matronly" shape.
