Native American Arts

A group ONLY for Native American artists of any kind who are actually Native American. So, if you are an artist making "native art" but you aren't Native, no joining for you. That means that you won't be able to join, no matter your "love for all things Native" or how much you "respect and value Native art." Here's the key: if you can't enter a Native art market or show because your bloodline doesn't allow it, you can't belong to this group. My idea is to support true Native artists and promote true Native art.

If that sounds harsh to some, please understand. Native artists have had to contend repeatedly with people pretending to be native or passing their non-Native art off as Native. We've been told people don't want our goods or services while they bring in "native" goods produced by non-Natives (can you say 'small children in China?"). We've watched non-Natives put on expensive costumes and dance to imitation Native music while we were passed by. We've watched non-Native actors get the job of acting in parts representing Native peoples while perfectly suited and talented Native actors were sent away. Think about it... I've set up this space so Native artists have a place to share with and support our personal and professional experiences around our art. This group is for any kind of artist, so if you are engaged in any way in the arts - music, performance, visual, written - please join us. Non-natives are welcome to visit, to read, to learn, but only Natives can join. "Quyana" Thank you for visiting.

Let it out!

Here's the space and place to do that...

This is your space. Have a complaint or just want to bitch about something/someone? Lodge it here (unless the complaint is about another lensmaster, in which case maybe the two of you ought to work that out somewhere else). Did something great happen that you want to share? Did you learn about something that will benefit the greater group? Have a suggestion or referral?

Whatever it is, here's the place to let it out.

My favorite lenses by and about any form of Native American art

If you want yours added, please ask. I'd like to keep these rotating as often as possible and love featuring new artists and lenses.

Recently updated group lenses

A place to show recently updated lenses. My preference would be not to have to choose between "new and recently updated," but as so often happens, they didn't ask my opinion or give me that choice...
