Group Discussion: How come YOUR NHL hockey team rocks?

What's so great about YOUR team?

dcameron

Oh... My team. Detroit. What's so great about them?
1. Zetterberg. Unbelievable hockey sense.
2. Pavel Datsyuk. Unbelievable hockey sense.
3. Nick Lidstrom. Another Norris trophy season.
4. Chris Osgoode. Future Hall of Famer. Just watch.
5. Chris Chelios. Can you believe he's 44-45 years old?!
6. One of the best teams at the draft. Do you know where they drafted Zetterberg and Datsyuk? Quite high!
7. Draper, Cleary, Maltby... a lot of character guys.
8. What a powerplay!
And much, much more!

Hey everyone, I have a few things on my lens, Play Better Hockey, that I'd love for you to check out: 1) a poll on who is most likely to be traded at the deadline 2) a poll on what aspect of your game that you'd like to improve, and 3) an invite to discuss whether Anaheim will repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Please come to my lens and participate. I'd love to know what you think. While you're there, check out my hockey tips. Hope to see you there!

Around The Net

By George Kurtz/The Fantasy Sports Forum

Well the big news of the past few days is that Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic will miss 8-12 weeks after hernia surgery. This is a major blow for Colorado as Sakic is still one of the better players in the NHL. The Avalanche only have a four point lead in their fight for a playoff spot. This loss will only make it that much tougher for them to make the playoffs. Even though the Avs have a lot of good young players, without Sakic - and with a shaky goaltending situation, this will be very tough to overcome.

How about the tight race in the Atlantic Division, where all five teams are separated by only five points? The Devils have ridden the stellar play of Martin Brodeur once again to be on top of the division and Patrick Elias is starting to put the puck in the net now. Pittsburgh has lost starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, but he wasn't playing all that well anyway. The Rangers have finally started to hit the back of the net with some of their shots. There's way too much talent on that team to not score more goals. That big sigh of relief you hear on Long Island is the news that Rick Dipietro will only miss another game or two because of the knee injury he suffered in warm-ups before the Toronto game. The Isles #1 draft pick of a few years back, Kyle Okposo, just signed a three year deal and they (and need) him to be the real deal. Philadelphia just needs to find some consistent goaltending. They may be in last, but they have also played the fewest games.

On New Years Day, the Pittsburgh Penguins will play the Buffalo Sabres in an outdoor game, in Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium. I love this idea and look forward to watching it. One problem however is making sure the ice will be as smooth as glass for the players. All you need is one player to catch their skate in a rut and wreck a knee, and we won't be seeing anymore of these games.

If Mark Recchi is still available on your waiver wire, pick him up immediately. He looks revitalized playing in Atlanta. Playing with Marion Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk can do wonders for a hockey player.

Henrik Zetterberg has missed the past two games with a sore back. He missed 19 games last season with a similar injury. Detroit states that the injury is not as severe this time, and hope to have him back on 12/31. Detroit can afford to be careful with their superstar. They have a 19 point lead in the division, 11 point lead in the conference, and five point lead in the NHL. Newsflash, the Detroit Red Wings are pretty good.

Poor Martin Havlat is going to miss another two weeks for the Blackhawks with a groin injury. Havlat has so much talent, but just can't stay healthy. So many of his owners must be banging their head against the wall right about now.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Habs rule! As soon as Huet gets back from his injury, they have a GREAT 1-2 tandem in goal, a bunch of 20 goal scorers, and defence that holds them in every game! Go Habs Go!
