Hi! Thank you for accepting me in this group.

I am an abstract painter. For a very long time I was afraid to try painting abstracts, because I thought you were supposed to have some kind of image in your head before starting. But that's not how inspiration works. Painting is a lot easier than most people think, but the hardest part is to accept that you don't have to know what you are doing, all you have to do is pick up a brush and start making a mark.

Inspiration comes by doing!

FlorenceArt

Acrylic is my main medium, either on paper or canvas. But I also love ink, pastel, color pencils, charcoal, collage... and of course digital painting!

CreativeSpotlite

My favorite medium is definitely oil paint. I have experimented with many different mediums but always find myself coming back to oils.

My favorite medium is oil. Just can't get away from its seductive, rich qualities. Lately I've also had fun experimenting with gouache and watercolor/pen and ink.

Let's Discuss Painting and its Purpose

This is the place to talk about the artist's role in today's digital society

With the growing popularity of digital imagery, where does that leave oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache and the heaps of other painting techniques? Is it all going down the tubes?

Let's hear what you think, and discuss about the future of painting!
For now, comments are only open to Squidoo members.

Strange to think of this in terms of competition. Digital art is a new way to make art, why does it have to replace anything? What did photography or cinema replace?

I love the freedom of the digital medium, I think it really helps me grow as an artist. I also love painting, getting my hands (and other body parts) dirty, the feel and touch of paper or canvas, and the gestures. Many different ways to create and have fun, I love them all!

Original, hand-created art vs. digital art = apples and oranges. Like them both, not remotely the same.

Hi!

Just joined and tried to write a comment, but never got the security word accepted no matter how carefully I wrote it LOL. Well, let´s try again.

I am an artist specializing in horse art but after a very trying year in our family (we lost a family member to a severe illness) I have begun to appreciate any art that has a positive message.

I used to paint with traditional mediums only, but when I tried to get my creative juices flowing again, I thought I´d try with digital painting. And I am hooked... I feel all mediums have value.

Just started my very first lense on horse art, but I think more lenses will follow...

I am blown away by the talent, ingenuity and creativity of digital artists. However, I think there will also always be a craving for the tactile intimacy that comes more directly from the artist's hands, even with the most primitive methods. You can't get any more basic than a stick with hair on i

No, I think it will be left right where it is or maybe considered to be more valuable and that digital imagery and painting will just be added as another style and medium...The Acrylic Artist

I think there is room for all of us creative types. I don't think digital will take away from "hand painted" paintings - perhaps it will make them more unique and more valuable in the future.

Digital art will never replace real pigment and the incredible textures that can be obtained from working with real brushes, mediums and other art supplies. I don't think it's about choosing one or the other but more about how the two may be used in conjunction for greater effect.

eventhough digital is an art in itself, using a brush/pencil and applying a technique will always be a contribution to handmade imaginative creativity...

Paint will never die, just as paper will never die-to be replaced by Outlook! Paint is an extension of our mind, our breath, and our seeing. Go for it.

I've seen digital and fractal art and it is stunning. And I've also seen many works done by hand, and both methods are gorgeous. I like painting with acrylics myself.

5 Litres of opaque white gouache, painterly and enthusiastic. I began as a painter over 30 years ago and am on the digital end of things now. Great stuff.

Do You Sell your Paintings?

How do you promote your artwork?

Help your fellow colleagues by telling us your favored marketing method

All of us are looking to get our artwork noticed and hopefully sold.
How do you go about presenting your work?

Some examples:
* Galleries
* Online sales / marketing
* Home / Atelier
* Word of mouth

Which method is most effective for you and what type of artwork do you create?

Mark_Haglund

I promote my art through local art shows, my blogs (you can Google Mark Haglund and you should find my links), through word of mouth, and Ebay auctions (again search on ebay for Mark Haglund and you will find my paintings). I resently joined a local business group in my hometown. I will be able to generate leads and interest in my art through this group.

Thanks for accepting my new lens!
I promote my work on my web site & blog and representation in local galleries.
I also work with an art rep selling my originals to galleries up & down the East coast.
I paint originals...no prints, so its non stop painting to keep a flow of inventory!

I'm going with a well known "Giclee" print maker because I have discovered that many people do not take you serious until you are dead. I use my blog to promote artists and feel that we should be recognized before we are dead..
