Energy alternatives only start with the commitment to change. We've been here before lest we forget gas lines and rationing in the 1970's. The key is leadership. How about banning the sale of all new automobiles with oil burning cumbustion engines by 2015? That gives the auto industry 9 years to convert to Natural Gas, Fuel Cell, or electric. It also levels the playing field for the U.S. automakers, giving them a chance to be successful again. There are some other good ideas around this subject in the book Political Common Sense for America... www.squidoo.com/politicalcommonsenseforamerica/

Why We Need Energy Alternative ???
We are in the midst of an energy crisis. The price of a gallon of gas is sky high and there is a great deal of trouble-brewing in the Middle East, Iraq and Iran and other areas. These problems have made it clear to many United States citizens that we have an oil-driven economy.
As Americans we need to develop new directions for energy supply and the production of it. We certainly need to reduce the dependency on oil and look for alternative resources. Experts believe there is no such thing as cheap oil and they will continue to pay a high price and in the future, it will be much higher. This expense will grow in the future unless we can locate alternative sources of fueling our technologically advanced civilization. How can we not support Israel? Israel is a beacon of democracy in one of the most dangerous regions of the world. How can we abandon our friend in the midst of wolves? I do not think that our troupes think that things are "bad enough" now. They know how much the Iraqis appreciate the US's help for rebuilding of their schools, infra structure, voting etc.

At this time Israel has the only form of democratic government in the Middle East and probably our only friend. The Arab nations do not seem very friendly.
The U.S.A. has never fought with or been threatened by another Democracy. Therefore I think we should support Israel. Perhaps what form that support takes could be debated, but I don't think the basic issue should be questioned.

Politics is the science that should be focused on defining what Man is and what constitutes valid limitations on Human Action. But it's not a science anymore. It has become the study of how to lie, cheat and steal. In time we will have bloodshed because we've lost sight of "We hold these truths..".
Valid political theory transcends all governments and nothing can be fixed until we revisit the theory being discussed by the founding fathers.

I don't want to get into a Bush discussion because there are too many unknowns to debate it effectively...I would like to point out a few things though...since WWI we have been asked to be the world's police force. Several times we have tried to ignore the request and each time some dictator has tried to exterminate whole cultures. In each of these cases we tried to stay out of it. The world organizations sided with these insane dictators and then came running to us for help when they realized they made a mistake. The last thought...the U.N. is one of the most scandle ridden organizations in the world. It is all about money and power and not about people.

The stature of the United States in the world came in part from it's relationships with it's allies. After September 11th, 2001, it was at an all time high. But, Bush squandered those relationships by going to war in Iraq without world support, walking away from the treaty on CO2 emissions, snubbing the U.N., and otherwise acting as if he had all the answers.
I can only hope that the next president will dramatically change this posture. It has cost us in major ways. The current fiscal crisis has only amplified the disdain the rest of the world has for the U.S. I can't say I blame them.

If America is under threat, it is the duty of our government to remove that threat.
If, however, we are tricked into removing a non-existent threat by fraud (lies) and sons and daughters die because of that, it should be considered a crime and those responsible for lying to us should be punished.
The punishment should be the most severe punishment possible. We need to make our government officials accountable for their actions.
If one of my children were sent to die on the basis of fraudulent information, I'd want to see those responsible come to the same end. As it is now, no accountability makes those criminals think they can get away with absolutely anything.

Refinery capacity along with supply and demand of oil are the major issues that must be addressed right now. We need to also address domestic and offshore drilling as long as we maintain our dependence on crude oil.
They are many alternatives which are not being addressed seriously. The oil magnate, T. Boone Pickens has said some interesting things about energy recently. Its worth a "Google" to look at some of his statements.

When I think of Iraq I have an almost overwhelming sense of sadness. I am sad for the people who have died on both sides of the conflict and I am sad for the situation that we will leave behind when we are out of there.
God I hope I'm wrong.
But mostly I am saddened by the realization that our government went in there on possibly false pretenses (and that should be considered a criminal act and won't be) and that political theory is not something even remotely understood by our so-called leaders. We will not have left behind the rule of law, we will have left behind rule by vote. We will give them gang warfare, which they already had. It will crumble into chaos within 5 years. 'We' think that our selected gang will be friendly to us. Sadness is all I have. The biggest debacle in history. Those who continue to sacrifice are HEROES who should demand an accounting. Iran is more of a problem than it was when we invaded Iraq. It is more of a problem than it was on September 12th, 2001. When Bush called them out as being a part of the "Axis of Evil", and then invaded Iraq...rather than N.Korea who had nuclear weapons, he sent them a message loud and clear. Have nuclear weapons and you are safer from attack.
Until Bush leaves office there is no chance of changing this trend of a deteriorating relationship with Iraq.

I think Iran is a problem now because they were not addressed properly in 1979/1980. And I agree with Susan52. A great question worthy of more discussion than it's getting for sure. Stop by my lens if y'all get a chance. I'm new to this group, so if this is spam just let me know.

We have been much too complacent about imports from Asia...China in particular. We have allowed ourselves to be "bought" with low prices. In turn we have sacrificed safety, quality, and compromised our copyright protection of artists and other creators as original works get ripped off and duplicated in mass.
Does your vote count?

We need to make this a true Homeland Security issue and not just a Customs issue. The ability to transport people, weapons, drugs, and pandemic diseases across our borders is way too easy. It's time to put the resources in place to do this job right.
Check out the book: Political Common Sense for America for a full description of how to solve this issue with good old common sense engineering and resource management.

Obamistas kicked me out of every Obama group and MySpace, Yahoo Answers, Flickr, Google Groups, Military.com, and other groups all disabled my accounts, for suggesting energy must be re-regulated, or a crash would happen. The crash happened, so now the Democrats are pretending the deregulation and NAFTA signed in 1996 by Bill Clinton isn't inflationary, yet, in 2008! Obama finally tells McCain in Debate III, how the deregulated, 2001 energy deals are 'robbing us of our wealth,' in 2008, but he let McCain offend Sam Wurzelbacher, calling him Joe Plumber, to red-herring up a media surge, which took hundreds of offices, measures, and media agendas, for the Republicans! NOW do you see why Governor Blagojevich baited the greedy Obama, actually pretending he could sell the office, Barack Obama had already sold out, with hundreds of others?

It's about guns and it's about property. They take our guns and the rest of our property becomes fair game. Only people who have no experience with guns believe guns kill people. People kill people and they have been doing it since the club was the weapon of choice. What we need is better and more strict laws regarding illegal posession and use of firearms in the act of a crime. Let the law biding citizens protect themselves and there will be fewer crimes.

Controlling who's guns? If the 2nd amendment is somehow taken from us then you can be sure that robberies and homicide will skyrocket. Law abiding citizens who have registered firearms will be called upon to turn in there guns. Some will and some won't but you can be sure that none of the criminals will. Then what do the criminals have to be afraid of when they want to rob a store or mug somebody. If our right to defend ourselves is stripped from our constitution then we need to stand up to the government and demand that the constitution is once again respected and followed since that is what this great country was built upon. God save America!

I believe we need to boost federal funding to law enforcement and first responders, such as: local police [our first line of defense]. Instead, the Bush administration has repeatedly cut federal funds. Right after 9/11 in NYC where I live, fire departments and police were seeing budget cuts. Fire houses were closing, etc.

If baby boomers were allowed to put the same money that they were forced to pay into Social Security into private retirement accounts, most of them would be sitting pretty comfortably right now. As it turns out, they will never get out of social security what they put in let alone feel financially secure. Social Security should have been revamped a long time ago. In order for it to continue to pay retirees a decent amount to keep up with the cost of living, it is going to have to carve out huge amounts of the younger generation's paychecks.
LeslieBrenner wrote...
For years the Bush administration has been peddling this lie about the future solvency of social security, in order to privatize it. [Sell it off to Bush's campaign donors -- bankers and Wall Street.] Social security isn't a socialist program. But even if it were, which it isn't, so what? Because social security has succeeded in ensuring the financial security of millions of poor, elderly Americans through saved earnings, paying for itself for decades. That's not to say there aren't problems as the American population ages within the next 20-40 years. But those problems don't rise to the level of insolvency, as Bush propaganda would have us believe.
