Fill your tank every time you get gasoline.

You should also put a piece of paper on the front of your refrigerator. This is for a list of all items you need to purchase. As soon as you know you need something, such as toothpaste, you write it down. Go to the stores only one day a week and take this list. That way you will not be making special trips for one item.

Let the kids walk!

Do you drive a couple of blocks to take the kids to school? Why? Let them walk.

An easy way to save gas gradually over time is to plan for how you park. It may sound like a very small thing, but in fact you waste more gas than you realize if you park head-in, then have to reverse, pull back, shift into forward, and drive away. Make a point, every time you park, of choosing a place in the lot where you can pull through one spot into another and end up facing out. (To help you imagine it, there will then be an empty space behind you.) Then just pull right away with no extra motion wasted. You'll use less gas this way and help the environment too!

One way to ensure better mileage is to make sure that your tires are inflated to their apppropriate air pressure. For an all gas car, the best you can do is keep it tuned and make sure all fluids and filters are current. The next best thing is to make sure the computer is checked by the dealer or competent garage so that all the emissions sensors are working well. Or, you can convert your car to a hybrid.
