School Choice - Which Educational Alternative?

Home school, unschool, experimental colleges, online learning, alternative education - there are a lot of successful options to choose from.

The ending of the industrial age will also spell the end of bureaucratic education. What will replace the huge and entrenched institutions created over the past few centuries?

A reasonable guess would be individual choice combined with cost appropriate education. We are at the start of the educational disintermediation era.

The Information Age Requires A Return To Old Principles

Let's rediscover schools that exist to instill and reward a love of learning

Public schools and private schools that emulate them are striving toward inappropriate goals with archaic tools.

There are many alternatives available, from innovative private schools and home schooling to free and open web based tutorials.

Time For Your Opinions

Anyone that really wants to learn enjoys hearing well reasoned thoughts.

Do you have an idea for a lens but don't want to spend and hour or two building it? Put it here.

If you want to start a lens based on what you read - let us know here. Then go up to the top right of this page and click to start it.

Just a comment with your viewpoint is welcome here as well.

If you support public education I would encourage you to both make a lens and start a group. I'll be glad to give it a friendly link from here if you will do the same from there.

Then folks will have both resources to evaluate their options.

Excellent information. The longer I homeschool, the more I experiment with what really works. I agree that our current government school system is a dinosaur that is just creaking along with the help of powerful special interest groups.

Great information and great links! I am enjoying your lenses! I'm just getting started on a couple myself. Still have a lot of work to do on them.

Great concept. There was so much experimental education when my kids were going to school, they wouldn't have learned a single basic if I hadn't taught them. Alternatives to public education allow people to fit the education to their kids, or to their own lives.
