Organization Without Genres

And why I'm doing it that way.

When I began to reorganize this lensgroup I wanted to avoid genres. I want to explain why and hopefully recruit a little help in organizing these lenses.

I don't like genres. I don't like stuffing a work into a category. Classifying a book or story in a general sense is useful. For example, in a bookstore I'll usually make a bee line to "Fantasy/ Science Fiction" and "Horror." But after I wander. I do the same thing in my local library: head for "Adult Fiction" first then get lost, fluttering along fiction and non-fiction and magazines and reference until my eyes glaze over and I get hungry and leave.

This lensgroup is about science fiction, fantasy, and horror lenses. I don't want to separate them into genres. Not only because it seems pointless but also because I'm to lazy. So I cut them up into categories along other lines. They seem a bit awkward to me right now. I would rather more elegant categories. So if you have another idea, hint, or suggestion please let me know.

Suggest a Lens, Leave a Comment

This lensgroup is open to new submissions. Simply suggest your lens and it will be reviewed and added. I needs only to be active and fit the theme of the lensgroup.

When submitting a lens, suggest a current or new category. (Keep in mind that this lensgroup doesn't use genres.) Also, tell us about the lens! What is it about? Why did you make it? Why is it unique?

Feel free to drop a comment about anything you like: hints, tips, questions, criticism.

This module only appears with actual data when viewed on a live lens. The favorite and lensroll options will appear on a live lens if the viewer is a member of Squidoo and logged in.
