A Walk in the Woods

A Walk in the Woods

Whether connecting with my children, a friend or just de-stressing from a long day of work my favorite pastime is a walk in the woods. The woods are quiet, peaceful and still but at the same time there is always something going on if you open your eyes and look around.

The Walk in the Woods theme can encompass many different types of lenses. From teaching about animals, to saving endangered species, to walking for exercise to hiking and travel.

Join the group and add your lens to the appropriate plexo category. If you don't find category that fits your lens just email me and I will add one.

As a member of this group it is your responsibility to read and review the other lenses in the group. Leave honest comments, emails, and stars. Remember that adding lenses to your favorites boosts your lensrank and allows you to receive casts from your favorite lensmasters.

Any lenses that are accepted in the Isle of Squid are encouraged to add their lens to the Isle of Squid Plexo at the bottom of this lens. As members it is important that we review our fellow group member's Isle of Squid lenses.

Are the Woods Safe?

Town Mouse/Country Mouse

If you are all alone, taking a walk, ask yourself where you would rather be. I personally feel safest in the woods. The woods are peaceful, there are birds twittering and squirrels scurrying around. You might hear the wind blowing through the trees or feel rain dripping down. Walking in the woods makes all your problems feel small. You can collect your thoughts. You feel renewed.

A Walk in the Woods with book in hand

A Walk in the WoodsWhen you can't get out into the woods there are always books that will take you there. Bill Bryson's book, A Walk in the Woods is just one of the best. I like to listen to it in the car when we drive from Florida to Vermont. Everyone in the family loves it and we talk about all the states we pass through as Bill Bryson describes them on the trail. When we get to Vermont we hike little bits of the trail and imagine that we are with Bill and Katz.

The book will soon be coming out in movie form starring Robert Redford. If you add this group to your favorites I will send you a squidcast when it's available.

Feel free to add your favorite books about walking in the woods to this plexo.

Newest Lenses to Walk in the Woods

A Walk in the Woods

Today I took a walk around the pond and saw more animals than usual. There was the turtle sticking it''s head out of the water and the grackles noisily flying from tree to tree. There were a pair of anoles scurrying across the path. A baby Gallinule ran into the rushes and a white egret stretched it's neck out and caught a fish.

What a wonderful day. Thank you all for joining me on the Walk in the Woods.

A Walk in the Woods

When I walk in the woods along a path I try to pick up the branches that fall in the way to help make it easier for those that follow. Sometimes I find shredded bark or half eaten acorns that show that other creatures have walked down this path as well.

[in reply to Ramkitten] Thank you so much for your kind words. It is one of my favorites as well and because of it's organization, I believe it has started to make the transition quite well. I am sad that many of the lenses were lost in the transition but am looking forward to new ones to be added.
