But they're fun! And the really grow! And you really get lots of tomatoes!

You probably feel the same way I do when it comes to those 'As Seen On TV' products. I don't usually pay them much attention.

The hardest part about growing tomatoes is getting out there and putting up the stakes. Then you have to tie up the plants. And the whole time you're stepping on vines, smashing tomatoes and... well, it's just a pain.

You have to admit, these just look like to much fun! And you don't have to mess around with stakes!

How To Attract Hummingbirds To Your Yard

Hummingbirds live all over North America and they've probably flown right through your backyard. They're very friendly little creatures and once they find something in your yard that piques their interest they hang around and build a nest.

Hummingbirds migrate South in the winter but if they found you yard once, they'll return year after year. All you have to do is find a way to attract them that first time and soon you'll have more of these little guys than you can count.

The best thing to do is plant lots of colorful flowers. They particularly like reds and purples.

They're also attracted to hummingbird feeders and they really don't care if it's one of those big fancy ones or the cheap ones you can pick up at the dollar store.

Put colorful flowers and a couple of feeders around your deck and soon you'll start to hear their little wings buzzing. And once they move in, as long as you keep the flowers and food going, they'll come back year after year.

Topsy Turvy® Hummingbird Upside Down Planter

You may not realize it but there are hummingbirds native to every state in America, and some of them travel right through your back yard.

They really are attracted to these hummingbird bushes. I know because I have a few around my deck and the same family of hummingbirds has been visiting me for 12 years now.

No space for a real flower garden? Hummingbirds are attracted by colorful flowers and this is one of their favorite plants.

Hang it from a post on your porch or on the side of a fence. Since it hangs it doesn't take up much space. As soon as it blooms, start watching for hummingbirds. They'll be around!

I see those planters all over town. We usually have cool summers here in the UP, so I don't know how well they work around here. We're going to grow our tomator plants in a cold frame this year so they stay warm enough to actually make tomatoes!
  • scarlettohairy Apr 10, 2012 @ 1:29 pm | delete
I might have to try one (in the fall when it's not so hot here). This looks like a good-producing tomato planter!

I love my Topsy Turvy. We used it last year and it was so cool to walk out on the back patio and pick a fresh tomato. Very cool. Great lens.

I have been tempted to buy a couple of these Topsy Turvy planters this year. Tomatoes, of course, but an upside down flower garden for the hummingbirds sounds pretty too.

In all honesty, I think farmers (yes, even self-respecting ones) could really benefit from having a Topsy Turvy tomato plant. With how many tomatoes they can output, the benefits can certainly outweigh the costs. The ability to grow this fruit (or vegetable) upside down can allow people to save space, or rather make use of their space in a whole new way. Of course, your average homeowner could definitely benefit from this product as well. It is unique, lasts a while, is an interesting piece to talk about with friends and family when they come over; and of course it puts out great tasting food that you can actually use! Not surprisingly, my mom already managed to buy one of these when they were on a television infomercial some time back; so I can verify just how cool they are, and that they actually work really well! I enjoyed your lens, and love this product too! Keep up the good work!
