Learn How to Grow Your Eyebrows Back

Do you suffer from Over Plucking Syndrome? Not to worry. Many people suffer from this, both men and women, teens and adults. We simply have the urge to tweeze as many little hairs as possible to create a perfect brow arch. However, many of us end up tweezing way too many hairs and we are left with a huge eyebrow disaster.

There is hope! There are a few options available to help you return those over tweezed brows to their once full, beautiful state. And if you shaved them off, they will grow back naturally on their own in time. And while the hairs will come back naturally, there are some products that can help speed up the process.

On this lens you can learn ways to grow eyebrows back. There is a lot of information on this page including product reviews, growth cycle information, links to before & after pics and how-to videos. Please bookmark this page and check back often. I add new information and reviews on the best products as I find them.

How to Grow Eyebrows Back

Stop Over TweezingDo eyebrows really grow back after you shave them? Yes they do! Do eyebrows grow back after over tweezing? Sometimes yes, but sometimes they will not grow back if the follicles are damaged. It all depends on how bad you over-tweezed.

How long does it take for eyebrows to grow back on their own? Again, that depends on how often you over pluck the hairs. If you simply shaved your eyebrows off then the hairs should grow back within 6 months. May take more or less time. The rate that any hair on our bodies grows is based on our genetics. And the hair growth goes through three cycles before reaching maximum growth.

There are a few products that claim they can help you regrow your eyebrows and some are meant for eyelashes, but people use them on their brows too such as Latisse. These products contain certain ingredients that might stimulate hair growth at the root. However, many people will tell you these claims are false. I have no idea what the truth is. I can only share with you my personal story and let you know what products I used to grow my eyebrow hairs back. Yes, I am guilty of being an over-tweezer! These tips may also help those that lost eyebrow hairs from chemo therapy.

My Personal Story

I personally began plucking my eyebrows at the age of 16 years old. I began over plucking over the next few years and it became a habit that I could not stop. Fast forward to today and I am still having a hard time growing my eyebrows back. I plucked and re-plucked until the follicles have been so damaged that it is taking them forever to grow back. I thought about permanent makeup, but I chose to find a way to grow them back. So far I have tried a growth accelerator, massaging the brow area, moisturizing, castor oil and I just began using the Walmart brand of minoxidil. Oh, and I will be adding in olive oil soon too. My brows have a long ways to go before they are fully grown, but they are slowly making progress. It's kinda funny that my left brow is growing a lot faster than the right. If they ever fully grow back, I will update this page with pics!

Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator

Grow Your Eyebrows Back...

The first product I used and still use to this day is Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator. I chose this product because it had a ton of positive reviews on beauty forums, beauty review blogs and major marketplaces online. One of the key ingredients in this product is Castor Oil. Castor Oil has been used to grow hair on the scalp for many many years. Many people claim the oil will make your hair grow super fast and it will grow in thick and shiny. I can tell you that I do not believe it causes NEW hairs to form, but what I do believe it does do is make any hairs you ALREADY have grow in longer, thicker and darker over a period of time.

To use this product, I first take a steam shower for about 15 minutes to open and clean out my pores. Immediately after I dry myself off, I apply the Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator and I hit the sack for a good restful nights sleep.

Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator works for me! It is easy to use and it works while you are slepping.

This is a great product at an affordable price....under $10!!! Can't beat that price, unlike other similar products.

St Ives Mineral Therapy Moisturizer

Add Minerals Back to Your Skin...

This is the second product I use to help me grow my eyebrows back. I have no proof that it works, but it keeps my skin feeling ultra soft and the minerals absorb deep into my skin and do not clog my pores. I really love this product and can't stress enough how much it works better than any other body moisturizer I have ever tried...and I have tried A LOT!

I use this product in the morning after I wash my face. I massage the moisturizer into my eyebrows because it keeps my skin soft and hydrated. Again, it does not clog my pores. Plus, there is no greasy feeling because it absorbs right into the skin.

St Ives Mineral Therapy Moisturizer is the best body moisturizer I have ever tried. It absorbs into your skin fast and leaves your skin feeling so soft. And there is no greasy feeling after putting this product on. I hate that!

Grow Eyebrows Back with Minoxidil

Grow Brows Back Fast...

Some people use minoxidil to grow their eyebrows back faster. Minoxidil is the main ingredient in Rogaine. It helps to stimulate the growth of hair due to baldness. Keep in mind that some people claim this product stops working when you quit using it. I would practice caution if you choose this method of regrowing your brows. Apply lightly and do not let the product drip into your eyes. Also be aware that some people claim that minoxidil might make skin loose around the brow area.

Eyebrows Before and After Using Rogaine Pics - check out this woman's results after applying Rogaine and Retin-A to her eyebrows for 3 months. Wow! The results are amazing and very inspiring. She went from having a few brow hairs for years to having a full amount of eyebrows within a few months. Great to see something work so well!

I have just begun using minoxidil and hope to see some improvements in brow hair growth soon!

Grow Eyebrows Back with Hair Vitamins

Grow Hair From Within...

If you are trying to grow your eyebrows back, it might be a good idea to learn about which vitamins promote hair growth. Vitamins taken orally in combination with topical products could work quite well, but I have no proof of that. The vitamins you might take include vitamin A, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, Biotin, calcium, Omega 3 Fish Oil, argan oil and more.

Grow Eyebrows Back with Castor Oil

Does Castor Oil Really Promote Growth...

Many people are using castor oil as their home remedies to regrow their eyebrows naturally. Castor Oil has been used for ages to grow longer, thicker and shinier hair. Please do not expect to see results overnight. You will need to apply the castor oil every night for a couple months to begin seeing results. Some have reported seeing hair growth in as little as a week for hairs that are already present. No new hair growth, though.

Update: Okay, I've been looking for some great reviews on castor oil for eyebrow hair growth. This girl, Vanilla Sencha, used a mixture of castor oil and almond oil on her eyebrows and here is the result after 16 weeks... Castor oil on eyebrows update. I am very impressed with her results.

Does Biotin Help Eyebrow Hairs Grow?

Bition Can Help Prevent Hair Loss. Does it Promote Hair Growth...

If you have a lot of shedding of hair on your scalp, chances are you might be Biotin deficient. Taking a Biotin B7 supplement should work to stop the excessive shedding. Many people are not aware that they have this deficiency and taking this supplement will fix the problem.

Does Biotin work to grow hair? No, it does not grow new hairs at the root. It simply prevents excessive hair loss in some people. In combination with other B vitamins, it is a great addition to help with the overall process of growing hair back.

Some people crush up biotin powder and mix with water to make a paste then add to their eyebrows. I'm not sure this really does anything because Biotin is not easily absorbed through the skin. It is best to just take it in pill form. You can also eat more foods that contain Biotin to help with hair loss.

I personally use a shampoo containing this ingredient, plus jojoba oil, to prevent hair loss on my scalp. I also use it on my eyebrows to wash off makeup. I use a toothbrush to massage while shampooing them. Then I rinse with hot water, pat dry and add the hair growth products to my brows.

Can I Use Latisse to Grow Eyebrows Back?

Some Dermatologists Prescribe Latisse for Eyebrow Growth...

Latisse is FDA approved to apply to your upper lashes. You can get this via a prescription from a dermatologist. The thing about Latisse is that it contains bimatoprost which is used to treat glaucoma. There is significant evidence to prove that bimatoprost stimulates hair follicles and does cause eyelashes to grow out very long. It really does work. However, you cannot get this in your eyes. You need to be really careful. It has also been reported that this stuff is so strong, that if you drop the chemical on your cheek, it will cause hair to grow in that spot. Also, if you stop using the product, the results revert back to before you started using the product. This product does work great to grow eyelashes longer and stronger. There are tons of before and after pics you can see online.

Does it work on the eyebrows? I do not have an answer to this question. However, I tried to find some answers online and from what I have read, this does help some people grow their eyebrows back completely, while some people have minimal results. It does not create new hairs, but stimulates dormant hair follicles. I guess results vary with each person. Latisse is quite expensive, costing anywhere from $99 - $125. And you must continue using it to maintain results if in fact it does work to grow your eyebrows back. I personally cannot afford it, so I have to pass.

There is a generic form of Latisse called Careprost ($10/bottle) that some people are using with great results. You can read some of the reviews here: Careprost reviews with before and after pics of eyelashes. Read the reviews. Some people are using this on their eyebrows and do see results, while others do not see any improvements.

Check out this 10-week review of Careprost on the eyelashes. Wow, amazing results...but I myself was checking out the eyebrows in the before and after pictures. Look for yourself here: Careprost after 10 weeks.

Massage to Encourage Eyebrow Hair Growth

Increase Blood Circualtion and Stimulate Hair Follicles...

It is a proven fact that massaging the scalp, if done properly, increases levels of blood circulation which allows hair follicles to absorb nutrients easier and faster. The circulation of blood in this area promotes growth of healthy hair follicles that exist. Now, there is no proof that this will work for the eyebrows, but it does not hurt to try.

To massage the eyebrows, use a soft bristle toothbrush. Be sure to massage in the direction of hair growth in a circular movement. Try using a non-greasy, lite oil to prevent the skin from becoming irritated. Extra virgin olive oil, castor oil or extra virgin coconut oil are all good choices. These will also help the skin stay hydrated. You can also use Vaseline if you already have it in your bathroom cabinet.

I am going to use coconut oil for massaging my eyebrows. I've heard that there are many great health benefits. According to research done at the National Institutes of Health's U.S. National Library of Medicine, coconut oil greatly reduced protein loss in hair and other oils were less capable of doing so. Coconut oil promotes healthy hair and growth.

Nature's Way Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 16 Ounce

Amazon Price: $7.75 (as of 06/01/2012)Buy Now

Use a small amount of coconut oil. Warm it by rubbing between your fingers, then massage onto your eyebrows.

Take a soft bristle toothbrush and gently massage the eyebrow area in a circular motion.

Hair Growth Stimulating Shampoos

Shampoo Your Way to New Brows...

If you are reluctant to try eyebrow stimulators, castor oil or minoxidil then you may want to start out using some shampoos that stimulate hair growth. Many people use Mane n Tail on their hair and it works wonders. Not sure if it would do any good for facial hair, though. You can also find shampoos that contain Biotin, which helps prevent unwanted shedding or major hair loss.

Well, luckily they will grow back in without using any kind of products. Being that you are young, they will probably grow out pretty quickly. Just keep eating healthy and taking your vitamins. Probably best to put the scissors away and don't use tweezers.

    so which one really works?
  • banapple Jan 3, 2012 @ 7:11 pm | delete
I can tell you that the Ardell does not seem to grow new hairs at the root. However, what it does do is make hairs that are barely there grow faster. Eyebrows are really hard to grow back. If you plan on using chemicals (such as minoxidil) to grow your brows, practice caution.

Thank you for sharing your experience and tips on growing eyebrows. I am going to try the castor oil treatment before using any chemicals. I have also read that gently massaging the brow with a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush helps to stimulate hair growth. I think this has helped my eyebrows a little, but I want faster results, so I will begin trying other things.
