Growing Onion
Ranked #5,268 in Home & Garden, #63,750 overall
Growing onions is pretty easy to do. One great thing about onions is you don't have to wait unit they are fully done growing to harvest them. They can be harvested as "green onions" pretty much any time. My son accidentally planted way too many onions in too small of space (whole packet of seeds in about a square foot! lol!!!) Not a problem! Some plants it would be a big problem to grow that many plants close together. With onions, you can just thin them out and you don't have to waste the ones you thinned, you can use them as green onions. Now if you want onions with big bulbs, you will have to thin them and give them some room to grow those bulbs, but don't waste the ones you thinned out... eat them! This page has lots of resources on getting you started on growing onions.

- Yes, I grow my onions from seed. I plant them pretty thickly in a container and then just pull them off one by one as I transplant them into the garden.

- Hi I visited an elderly lady last week who is an avid gardener and she introduced me to a heritage variety of onion I had never heard of - Onion Tree or Tree Onion. It actually forms a cluster of onions at the base and the flowering head forms corm type bulb things that you plant instead of the traditional seeds we are used to seeing on our regular onions. Perhaps you could find out more about these and post here. I am going to grow some next season
