Strawberries are one of my favorite foods! Thanks for the lens.
  • lemonsqueezy May 17, 2011 @ 11:21 am | delete
We planted a vegetable garden for the first time this year. We were ambitious with our plans and didn't get to plant everything we wanted to. My only regret is that we didn't get the strawberries planted. I'm not going to miss it again next year.
  • Lori May 13, 2011 @ 8:21 am | delete
Great information. I started in a strawberry pot this year but I am hearing mixed messages about whether they will bear fruit this year, any comments or suggestions on that. I have one plant that has three flowers, so does that mean that I will have three strawberries?
  • prosperity66 May 13, 2011 @ 9:04 am | delete
Normally, one flower = 1 strawberry. However, some strawberries develop and some don't. I'd say that with three flowers you'll certainly have 1 strawberry, perhaps 2 and if you're a lucky person, you'll have three strawberries.

If you planted everbearing strawberries, there will be more blooming flowers by the end of September. If you planted June bearing, I wouldn't expect more than another three flowers by the end of June. But next year your plant will be stronger than this year and will produce more berries.

Remember to plant the runners in other pots so that next year you'll get a larger crop ;)
  • Lori May 13, 2011 @ 9:26 am | delete
I am going to have to do more research on this. This is all brand new to me. Thank you very much for the response. My strawberries are in a tall pot with twelve "balconies" on the outside, each with its own plant, and with three plants on the top. How will I find the "runners"?
  • prosperity66 May 13, 2011 @ 10:37 am | delete
Runners will appear in the end of June - sometimes earlier, sometimes later - you'll notice "additional" strawberry plants and will hang from each main plant. It definitely looks like additional strawberry plants but they hang from the "balcony", lol. When planted in plain ground, runners "run" far from their mother plant and grow like any other normal strawberry plant.
  • lemonsqueezy May 17, 2011 @ 11:22 am | delete
This is good information. Maybe I will go ahead and plant my strawberries just knowing that the plant will be better next year.
  • RetroMom Apr 15, 2011 @ 8:35 am | delete
Great info here, I have to repot my strawberry plants this year, I hope they do okay.
  • JoanneOtt Apr 1, 2011 @ 2:32 am | delete
I love strawberries, they are my favorite fruit. They are wonderful on home made waffles with whipping cream, or in strawberry shortcake.

I tried to grow strawberries in an earthbox last year and the plants grew like crazy but the strawberries were really tiny. I'm going to keep trying though!
  • KonaGirl Mar 19, 2011 @ 3:05 pm | delete
I didn't grow any the last couple of years, but I am going to this year. Thanks for the reminder and the tips. Leaving you with a Squid Angel blessing and added your link from this lens to My Squid Angel Wings blessing lens.

Is it possible to grove Grow Strawberry Plants in Singapore where it is very hot and humit
  • prosperity66 Nov 28, 2010 @ 9:51 am | delete
As said above, strawberries grow in mid climates, but you could try to grow them in Singapore: they need a lot of water as well as sun rays. So, might work :) Keep me update if you give it a try, so that other people in your area could also try, particularly if they actually grow well in Singapore :)

I have always wanted to grow strawberries as a kid. Hmm..Some of that inspiration is coming back to me now..Thanks for tips. In my country its too hot to grow strawberries or rather strawberry plants that bear fruits.

I have a large garden and I planted 5 strawberry plants 2 yrs ago. I now have over a hundred. Another reason to plant in pots is that they breed like rabbits. Next year I should have enough to make jam without buying any. I put some in hanging bags this year and they did well. Great lens on strawberries. Thumbs up!
  • MissPuppy Jun 28, 2010 @ 1:45 am | delete
Yummy! I love strawberries. Your page looks very nice good work.

Well, I am still hanging on the hanging pots method for growing OUR strawberries ... for a family there is NOT enough strawberries ever to go around.
  • prosperity66 Jun 15, 2010 @ 1:21 am | delete

  • jeffwend Apr 12, 2010 @ 9:52 pm | delete
I have never thought of growing strawberries in pots before. It would be a great way to keep them off the ground and away from the bunnies 5* and blessed
  • prosperity66 Apr 13, 2010 @ 4:45 am | delete
And keep them away from the snails and other horrible creatures, lol. Unfortunately, my dog likes strawberries and often eat those that are close to her place in the garden ;)
    Thanks for the blessings, Jeff!

Loved your lens - and every year I think about growing strawberries, and here is an extra reason why. Strawberries are on the top ten list for buying organic, because they are so affected by all the sprays used. Home grown reduces the toxic exposure. So, thanks for the growing tips. Btw, I added your lens to my AeroGarden lens.
  • prosperity66 Mar 5, 2010 @ 1:49 am | delete
It is! You're right and I'm interested in your aerogardens pages!
  • WebSpinstress Mar 2, 2010 @ 8:40 am | delete
Growing strawberries in pots or hanging baskets sounds like a great idea - especially for those of us that only have balcony space available. Looks like it will be tomatoes AND strawberries this year... :-)
  • prosperity66 Mar 2, 2010 @ 10:32 pm | delete
I saw strawberries and tomatoes everywhere on the Web so yes, looks like everyone is going to grow both :D
  • GonnaFly Feb 22, 2010 @ 2:18 pm | delete

Canberra, in the Southern Alpine region of Australia, is a great place for berries of all descriptions. I have eaten so many strawberries from my garden that I am almost sick of them. This is a great lens and very helpful and GREEN. Thanks for the blessing on my books lens Dom. Top marks here and lensrolled and featured on Save Planet Earth

I think I'm trying to make the Spring come sooner with those lenses, lol. Indeed, growing fruits and plants in pots is feasible and perfect when one doesn't have a garden - or even when one has one... useful decorating items ;)
  • Wednesday_Elf Feb 8, 2010 @ 2:35 pm | delete
Yum - I love strawberries - and what a delightful way to grow them when you don't have a garden!
  • WordCustard Feb 8, 2010 @ 12:43 pm | delete
