Save on Food Costs with a Vegetable Garden

Growing up, I took our big vegetable garden for granted. All summer we enjoyed fresh produce from peas to tomatoes to corn-on-the-cob. We ate well. Mom canned much of it so we had vegetables to eat all winter. I remember carrying up jars from the cellar. They were filled with richly purple pickled beets and other vegetables like green beans to go with hearty, filling meals.

Now I miss all those home-grown foods. It's time to start gardening again. With some effort, anyone can have fresh vegetables to feed their family. Working together in the garden is great exercise while everyone contributes effort to put food on the table.

I've collected advice from experienced gardeners to help new gardeners get started.
