About Growth Hormone

Growth hormone is chemically known as Somatotropin and is classified as a polypeptide hormone, being synthesized and secreted by the pituitary gland. The r found in rhGH means recombinant in DNA technology, meaning biosynthetic in layman's terms, whereas prior to 1985 hGH was taken from the pituitary of a corpse, hGh being the abbreviated form for "human growth hormone".

Growth hormone is also known as the master hormone as it is first released at birth and is responsible for the majority of our body's anabolic efforts. hGH pays a very significant role in our development during adolescence and is also plays an important part in the strengthening and mineralization of the bones. Further important hGH functions are hyperplasia (creation of new cells), lipolysis (fat burning) and protein synthesis.

Growth hormone is believed to enhance athletic performance and also increase muscle growth. hGH works differently to anabolic steroids, the difference being that steroids increase muscular size through hypertrophy or by increasing muscle tissue size, whereby hGh functions solely through hyperplasia, meaning the creation of new cells.

Although hGH functions through increasing IGF levels causing hyperplasia, muscular size increases are not normally related with just hGH and androgens are normally needed to enlarge the new cell tissue. In other words, as soon as you have reached your peak by building your natural muscles to their largest size, where even steroids can't help, then hGH will be able to take you to new heights by adding new muscle cells through hyperplasia. Anabolic steroids can then be used to enhance muscle growth by working on these new cells produced by hGH.

Whereas steroids have to be taken through cycles in order to avoid suppressing the body's hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal-axis (HPGA), hGH can be taken on longer periods as it does not suppress the HPGA. The majority of hGH users won't begin see see any significant results for about 2 months, but from then on results will be visible for as long as hGH is taken.
