MiMi

Coming from an unfortunate childhood, I didn't know what life was all about. All I knew was that life sucked. Where is the order? What is my reason for being? Why don't I know it? Why am I so sad and angry?

I began looking for answers at age twenty. At 53, the journey continues. Now, though, I am able to look at a problematic situation and realize that somewhere in the messiness of it all is my lesson.

Motivational quotations have been along for the whole ride. I love them. They inspire me tremendously. GrowWear.com came into being because of my strong desire to help others similar to myself who have had a hard time growing up because of childhood neglect and who are now on a journey to find their reason for being.

GrowWear.com, when I had the store, has brought me lots of joy and many opportunities for my growth. And although I closed the site in a huge life's regrouping because I had spread myself too thin and had to make that choice--write or make T-shirts, and well, I've chosen Squidoo, but I'm still selling a few T-shirts on Zazzle, though. :)

Update: 6/19/11: Lens to be re-published as a legacy page.

That Unfortunate Childhood

My two brothers and one sister and I suffered from child neglect. As a result, I have been battling depression all of my life. My sister is 15 months younger. I remember one day being under her crib. She was up there goo-gooing and gah-gahing -- blissfully happy sounds. I was three years old -- give or take a few months. This memory has stayed with me all these years because I can never forget that I lay under that crib wondering, "Why is she so happy?"

When I wear my glasses, I have a rather teacherish look. As to comportment, my nephew says I remind him of Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. That's cool with me. :)

I am on a spiritual journey. I love the simple things in life...time for a cup of coffee, time to enjoy my grandson, time to just be. My journey of personal growth started thirty years ago, and I am still on that trip and hoping it lasts forever. Well, yeah, forever — even through other dimensions!

Though I still have some pages at CafePress that are the free ones I had built over time, the original GrowWear store is no more. I am now using Zazzle for GrowWear designs and products. ...You'll find a few of my motivational products below.

Love the t-shirt from GrowWear that says as we teach we learn...so true! Our journey never ends, and that time you are spending just to be, and to enjoy the simple things are what many people miss in their endless pursuit of happiness. I have been blessed many times over from the gifts of time and compassion you have given over the years, and glad that you didn't shut down from here too :)

Life can be messy, but as you have found out there is a lot of good, as well. Being active in a community like Squidoo is a great thing!

Thanks for sharing your story. The one part of life that all of us tend to project, is the happy, 'everything is alright' front. But sadly, most of us tend to keep the hurt and the pain 'within' - which is usually a burden. Sometimes it is just better to just 'let go'... and keep you mind still. (you may call it meditation if you want!). Cheerio! Wish you well and God bless. :)

I can relate to your journey, mine has been very similar. Because of my past and childhood I also now do a great deal of writing about personal growth and development. Overcoming the obstacles in my life has inspired me to share and mentor with others so they might be able to do the same. We seem to have a lot in common, thanks for sharing.
