Nirvana Poster
Featuring Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic

Nirvana Poster
Unquestionably one of the most played, influential, and celebrated artists of the 90's and the entire grunge movement was Nirvana. The band is widely credited as sparking a musical revolution in 1991, with their Seattle bred music style taking hair band by the hair and throwing it to the ground. Subsequent bands which were already recording in the underground "grunge" movement followed in their footsteps, with an entire alternative/grunge radio format and style given birth to (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam most noticeably lead the charge). While the band met their end when lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994, the band's legacy and impact live on.

Alice in Chains Poster
Featuring Layne Staley (1967-2002)

Alice in Chains Poster
Alice in Chains arguably deserve as much credit for renovating rock n' roll in the early 90's as Nirvana. The band found success with their 1992 album "Dirt," which featured the songs "Them Bones," "Would?" "Damn That River," "Angry Chair," and "Rooster," and "Down in a Hole." These radio hits weren't your typical alternative music, it defined the grunge genre, influencing countless copycats to this day. This poster features the late, great singer Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002 in his home in Seattle. His vocal style has made a tremendous impact on rock musicians, possibly greater than Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.
Stone Temple Pilots Poster
STP poster - Featuring Scott Weiland, the DeLeo Brothers, and Eric Kretz
Though the band may not always stay together, they have remained a top rock act. Stone Temple Pilots achieved their greatest success with their debut album core. It included the singles "Wicked Garden," "Plush," "Creep," and "Dead and Bloated," and was followed with another grunge classic, Purple, in 1994. After many Grammy nominations and hit albums, the band dissolved in 2003.
They reunited in 2009 after the breakup of Velvet Revolver, releasing a new album and touring. STP is also a great band to see live in concert.
Smashing Pumpkins
Influential, distinctive, and relevant music from the grunge scene
There were originators, copycats, and c-level copycats in the grunge music scene of the 90's. In that upper tier of original music was Smashing Pumpkins. Original members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha, and D'Arcy Wretzy formed the band in 1988. Bursting onto the scene in 1993 with their first mainstream album, Siamese Dream, the world eagerly anticipated their follow up album. The next album would be their most popular and well known: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. This was a double concept album likened to Pink Floyd's "The Wall," with five extremely popular radio singles: "Zero," Tonight Tonight," "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," "1979," and Thirty Three." The band now consists of just Billy Corgan as an original member, who is the main contributor to the writing process and the lead singer. As one of grunge's most influential bands, their sound can be heard in bands like the Silversun Pickups and The Deftones. Smashing Pumpkins Posters

Pearl Jam Poster
Live on Two Legs - 1998 live Pearl Jam release

Pearl Jam Poster
Few other bands have outlasted the grunge era of the 90's than Pearl Jam. While Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden all fell to the wayside, Pearl Jam remained standing with its head held high. This live recording, released in 1998, showcases the band's best live material from the most recent tour, and included some of their best known hits and rock radio tracks.
Soundgarden
One of grunge's most important bands
The 90's were a time of change in rock music, and that change was never more evident than with bands like Soundgarden. While earlier Soundgarden material was an updated version of heavy metal, their 90's releases like Superunknown and Down on the Upside were grunge rock classics. "Burden in My Hand," "Black Hole Sun," "Outshined," "Spoonman," and "The Day I Tried to Live" still receive modest airplay on rock radio. Today, the band has never been more appreciated or anticipated as they head into a reunion phase.Soundgarden Posters

Grunge Poll
Which band is your favorite?
There were dozens more influential grunge bands, and others that may not have exactly fit into the mold of "grunge." From 1991 to around 1996, grunge and alternative music were often lumped together unfairly. Bands that truly epitomize the grunge sound are the six featured below in the poll. You may also be familiar with Bush, L7, 7 Mary 3, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, Soul Asylum, The Screaming Trees, Mad Season, and Mudhoney. But this begs the question of the real mainstream acts....
Radiohead Poster
Fear Stalks the Land!

Radiohead Poster
What started out as just one great song in the early 90's called "Creep," with premature labeling of the band as a one-hit-wonder, Radiohead impressed millions with their releases "Pablo Honey," "OK Computer," and "The Bends." The band has hailed numerous sources for their inspriation, including techno, post punk, and classic rock. In 2007, the group released their album "In Rainbows" free on their own website, a virtual first (fans could actually pay whatever they felt appropriate for the album, including nothing). While the band isn't grunge today, their first hit, "Creep," fit right into the grunge scene of the early 90's quite well. Plus, this poster is so cool we couldn't not feature it on this page!
