How to get to GSU.

Smack in the middle of Downtown ATL.

The actual route to get to GSU is pretty simple because it's accessible by I-75/85 South and Northbound, I-20 East and Westbound, Hwy 78 Westbound, and MARTA. Just type in your address or location, and Google can help you out immensely. However, actually driving those little downtown streets could be a bit of a problem, especially if you're new in town.

If you schedule a visit or attend one of their open houses, you can park for free in the M-Deck located on the corner of Piedmont Ave. and Auditorium Place. Additional parking is available in the G-Deck (which is also free for visitors). Just continue on Auditorium Place and turn left onto Courtland Street.

I highly recommend leaving incredibly early if you plan to attend a GSU open house. Parking fills up quickly, and the traffic in downtown is already horrendous. Also, remember where you parked, because it is very easy to get lost.

Freshman Admissions.

You want to get in, don't you?

  • Freshman requirements: A minimum of 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Science/History, and 2 Foreign Language (must be two in the same language) classes. You must also submit SAT (minimum 400 math and 430 verbal) or ACT (minimum 17 on both English and math) scores. Also required are a completed application (which is available online), $50 application fee, and high school transcripts.
  • Application Deadlines:
    Fall Semester: Feb. 1st/Mar. 1st.
    Spring Semester: Oct. 1st/Oct. 1st
    Summer Semester: Feb. 1st/Mar. 1st

(Italicized dates refer to priority deadlines; the second date refers to regular deadlines.)

The cost of GSU

Money!

All figures are for the 2006-07 school year. Rates may increase or decrease each year. But GSU has a neat little program that fixes your tuition so you pay the same amount every year, even if the price goes up. Sweet.

Just so you know, basic Georgia residency requirements (so you can get in-state tuition) state that you must have been living in the state of Georgia for at least 12 months prior to the semester you're applying for.
  • In-state tuition: $1946/semester (12 or more credit hours.)
  • In-state fees: $463/semester.
  • Out-of-state tuition: $7785/semester (12 or more credit hours.)
  • Out-of-state fees: $463/semester.
  • Housing fees: $5594/year (not semester.)
Housing fees are the same whether you pay in-state or out-of-state tuition.
  • Other fees, such as books, class, and lab fees, vary by each individual's degree requirements.

Financial Aid at GSU

How am I going to pay for this?!

  • Federal Aid: This can't be stressed enough: make sure you file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible! No matter what your age, race, or income, you are likely to qualify for some sort of federal aid. Check with your high school counselor, the financial aid office of GSU, or the FAFSA website for more information on applying.
GSU's deadline for filing for financial aid for the Fall semester is April 1st; Spring Semester is October 1st; and Summer semester is March 1st.
  • HOPE Scholarship: HOPE is available to Georgia residents (no matter what high school you graduated from). Please refer to the HOPE website for more information on eligibility requirements and how to apply.
GSU's deadline for applying for HOPE for the Fall semester is Nov. 25th; Spring and Summer semesters are April 21st.
  • School Scholarships: GSU offers several scholarships for undergradates, all with different requirements to apply and different award amounts. Refer to GSU's list of awards for more information. Scholarships are only available to individuals already accepted to GSU.
