The Guadalupe River

At 230 miles long, the Guadalupe River is a Texas staple for all types of boating, spectacular fishing, and meandering along on a tube. The Guadalupe begins in Kerr county, west of Kerrville, and runs to the Gulf of Mexico.

It was named Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe in 1689 by Alonso de Leon. The shortened Guadalupe held fast in spite of efforts to rename it to San Augustin by a river colony, Domingo Teran de los Rios.

The Guadalupe river banks have produced evidence that people have been living around it for thousands of years. Who can blame them? It is a beautiful river.

In the late 50's to the 60's the Guadalupe River was dammed to create Canyon Lake. This was done to aid in flood prevention and water conservation.

Guadalupe River Beginning to End

For your information, gathered below are a few articles on boating: rules, safety, information and how to.

After the articles, please take a moment to view some of the scenes I captured while boating and fishing on the Guadalupe River.

It truly is a beautiful place.

The photos are all from areas of the river above Canyon Lake to Rebecca Creek Road.
