They were born in the need to do SOMETHING...

In the days right after September 11, 2001, the world became too eerie. The building I lived in was empty - the others had huddled together with family and loved ones, somewhere else. No planes flew overhead; traffic was not around. My bosses were afraid for us to go to work. So we didn't.

I needed to do something, anything, to make a difference.

Something made me think of the guardian images Assyrians and Sumerians once made of clay. These little images were buried under stepping stones in front of a home's door, to protect the inhabitants within from evil. This was a past life memory: we often go deeper into our memories in a time of crisis, looking for some comfort and hope. I didn't realize for several years just how deeply I had gone, because, you see, when I first made them, I didn't KNOW about the Assyrians and Sumerians - I just knew the clay figures had to be made...and my hands knew just how to make them.

I took Sculpey oven firing clay and made a rough shape that could stand up; then I pressed stones and beads into them, and put them in the oven. Out they came, with an amazing feeling in them...

I had no idea what I was starting, or how far it could go...

The Magic in Clay

Clay absorbs and keeps the energy we put into it...

As an empathic psychic who has an ability called psychometry (sensing psychic energy through touch), I have always favored handmade pottery, because the potters leave something of their energy behind in the clay. I think I might drive sellers nuts when I walk from pottery table to pottery table at a crafts fair, just feeling the pieces to know which potter I want to buy from!

The same thing happens when you make a guardian. By rolling the clay in your hands, your energy gets into it, and stays with it.

But, over the years, I discovered something more: if you are a psychic medium who can draw other energies to you (as I am), that energy comes into the clay as well - with surprising results!

"Simple shapes
remind us
of spirit..."

The Guardians represent our spirit guides, or angels

I started realizing there was more to it than just my ideas when a guardian said NO!

I have made hundreds of these since 2001, and in spite of their simplicity, they continue to surprise...No two are ever alike.

No two are alike because they won't LET me make them alike!

I have always felt that the best creativity comes when you allow the materials to tell you what to do with them, but I had no idea until the past few years that some other guidance might be a factor as well. I started realizing this when I made a few of the guardians to fulfill specific requests from patrons - and there were times I tried to do something and felt a felt NO when I tried to do it! I started listening more to a sense outside of myself as I worked on the figures...and the results amazed me!

Why so rough in shape?

They look unfinished because a guardian's job is never finished.
They are given no face because everyone has their own face for a guardian angel. Look into the roughness and find your own...

"Make this one pregnant, please!"

The out of air request that drove the point home...

After years of making guardians mostly for friends and occasionally for sale, I started making Guardians as a business in 2009. I felt that I should listen solely to whatever sense was coming through to me, so I tell patrons, don't ask fo anything about color, etc - just tell me why the guardian is needed, and let the spirit guide do the talking.

What can happen by just giving that little invitation to talk!!!

One day I was working on new guardians and took up a golden colored piece of clay.

"Make that one look pregnant."

What? The voice was as clear as if it were in the room with me.

"Make that one look pregnant."

About an hour later, I received an e-mail request for a guardian that was to be a present for a woman who was having trouble conceiving children!

Another time, I had an order for guardians that was easy to do until the last one.

"No. Wrong color. More like that."

This one then?

"No. Wrong shade."

I had to go to the craft store and just pick up different shades until the voice said okay!

When I started making the figure, I had to pick up each and every bead and stone I had and listen for the okay. The spirit leading me was ADAMANT.

Finally, after a long delay, I was able to send off the package. I sent my patron a note about the fussy guardian. When it arrived, I immediately got an e-mail: the fussiness described her daughter to a T, and the guardian was the EXACT clor of her bedroom!

Once, I was determined to pick what I thought was nice for the color I was using. I was stunned when it came out of the oven - it felt empty of good energy, and worse - it felt awful! I couldn't give it to anyone!

Looking back through pictures later on, I found I had accidentally made it like one I had made earlier, the green one in this picture. I have my own guardians running quality control over me...

In other words: I don't argue! They tell me what to do!!!

I listening to guides, and to you too!

Let me know what you think!
