My Island of Guernsey

Guernsey is the largest of the islands in the Guernsey Bailiwick. 9 miles at its longest point the island of Guernsey is just 24sq miles in area. Guernsey has a population of about 60 thousand and is very cosmopolitan with peoples from all over the world. You can find many quiet spots to rest even at the peak of the summer holiday season. The shoulder months, April, May, September and October are very busy with many discounted holidays on offer.

There many smaller islands that make up the Biliwick. They are Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou, Brecque, Lihou and many smaller islets.

The first cruise liners heading to Guernsey this year will arrive soon in 2008. Guernsey expects between 30,000 and 40,000 cruise liner visitors this summer season.

The island gets about 2/3 of its income from finance. Locally it is said that the credit crunch will not have a lasting effect on the islands.

One of the facinating things about Guernsey is the traditional recipes and i will shortly publish a few. Guernsey Recipes like 'Gache', a traditional fruit bread or loaf and Bean Jar, a slow cooked mix of meet and beans.
