Founded in 1981 by brothers Paul and Maurice Marciano, "Guess?" is currently counted amongst the fashion industry's leading brands. Their first product was a pair of designer jeans they called 'Marilyn'. Initially the marketplace was hesitant towards this product. It was not until 'Bloomingdales' offered to stock 24 pairs of "Guess?" jeans, and they sold out, that this brand was finally noticed. A year after their successful launch, "Guess?" began their infamous publicity campaign of black and white images of models wearing their clothes.
As the brothers grew up in Southern France, the "Guess?" line of clothing is heavily inspired by French styling. Their clothes combine a unique blend of European sensibility with the added twist of American styling. The Marciano brothers claim their clothes to be 'sensuous, innovative and timeless'. Today, Guess?'s collection consists of tops, bottoms, jeans, dresses, accessories, outerwear, innerwear, and swimwear. 'Marciano', a contemporary couture collection for women, is an extension of the Guess? brand, as is Guess? accessories, which offers designer watches, jewelry, and bags.
