If You Have The Will & Know-How, You Have The Ability To Perform Spells for Any Purpose

There are many facets about witches and what we are really all about. One of the most prevalently known aspects is spell craft. Yes, we do perform spells sometimes. Without going into a long dissertation about what witches do, what we are mainly about or our beliefs, this lens focuses mainly on how to perform spells. If you want to learn more about witches in detail, you can visit Essence of an American Witch. Here, you will find samples for wording your magick and how to open and close a sacred circle. You do not need to be a witch to take advantage of what the universe offers all of us as Her children.
There are some witches that perform spells in a negative or evil light, but there are mostly those in which do the opposite or for only a benign purpose. The problem with performing spells on a witches' level without one actually being a witch can be tricky. There are many spell books and witch-related information that can be purchased in book stores. However, as explained at Essence of an American Witch, most books sold over the counter often do not give away all the know how of witchcraft or steps for spell crafting. This isn't to say that your wishes will not be successful by following certain guidelines. I offer information and methods for you here. You will also find the how-to's and some rules to consider about crafting spells. There are also products, items and beautiful artwork that I personally recommend throughout this page.
T his guide and information will help you well on your way to creating your own spells with great success, safety and the gist of understanding how things work. I do not give out full spells but I do provide you examples as a guide. You will find information here that will give you nonchalant hints to you. Use your intuition and common sense and you'll figure it out (and probably more.) Some advice or cautions may seem extreme but you'll just have to trust me....or not. It's certainly your choice.
My most important message: Just remember the sayings, "be careful what you wish for" and "don't ask for more than you truly need." Greed will get you nowhere and lack of knowledge and protection can make your life (or others') miserable. So, please be careful.

What is a Spell?

The mind is more powerful than even the top scientists can explain. Because of that, anyone can perform a spell just the same as anyone can pray or bless someone or something. The power of prayer is extraordinary and utilizing other tools can only benefit your aspirations and wishes. A spell is a well-driven mechanism that brings about a desired outcome. Basically, a spell focuses your positive energy to help you get what you want. We often utilize other tools as explained below. The energy generated by the ritual is directed out into the universe. Most often, the most successful and effective spells are simple ones that you concoct yourself. Most importantly, your belief, intent and will is what gives the spell the genuine power.
On a personal note, I am more than 1/2 Native American and I am also a witch. I combine both traditions for my own rituals, blessings, prayer and spells. You need not be a witch, Native American Indian or anything else to perform such acts. Just be yourself; what is within your own soul and feelings. That is what matters most for spells or life itself.

5 Important Essentials of Spellcraft

Prior to Attempting Your Spell

www.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.wswww.bigoo.ws

  • A strong need or desire: Whatever your goal, you must want it bad enough. That empowers your energy which, in turn, empowers the magick.

  • Knowledge: Understand your principles and motives fully and be in tune with your inner self.

  • Respect for the process and earth: Think of it as a secret family recipe. It is not for others' eyes. Don't discuss your spells with others unless consulting with him or her. Speaking about your magick can dilute the potency. Also, if you take from the earth, give something back.

  • Have faith: Believe in the outcome. You must truly feel deserving of your goal. In other words, if you are wishing to win the lottery (who isn't?) be realistic. Do you really believe you can win? If yes, then go for it.

  • Use your imagination and creative visualization during and after the spell. Visualize the outcome you are wanting.

"There is much involved with using magick. Simply reading a book or two on the subject is certainly not sufficient and can create dangerous consequences."

Making the Spell Your Own

Personalization is the Only Way

I have provided you with a few spell examples.in this lens. Use them with caution and only after learning at least the basics of spell craft here and any other source. I cannot emphasize enough about the importance of responsibility, accountability, possible interference and unforeseen outcomes. Using the tools, colors and scents is fine but try to change the wording a bit if possible. Every spell MUST be YOUR OWN. You need to make it YOUR OWN. Add a phrase or change some words around. As I stated, no spell book you can buy can be used for your personal spell. You must change it a bit to make it personally yours and with your energy and intent. That is another reason why using spells from some book you purchased off the shelf will often fail. Make it your own. Use those books as only a guide.

Setting Up Your Area

Your Sacred Space

You will need an area to yourself. Choose a place that will provide you with a focal point and a storage area for your ritual items. You can use a small table covered with a cloth and place your items upon it. You can even simply use the ground or floor.
You will want to use symbols of the 4 elements. A bowl of sand, sea salt, or some stones to symbolize Earth. Use candles or a wand to symbolize Fire. Try using incense to symbolize Air and a water filled bowl for Water. Then, if you choose, place your other ritual tools around them such as a pentagram (representing the elements and spirit) herbs, talismans, stones, crystals, flowers, etc. If the spell involves another, place a picture, lock of hair or any other object with their energy attached.

The Heart of God

Wording Samples & Method for Opening/Closing a Circle

Also: Self Protection Within Your Space

Yes, witches really do use brooms! But not to fly.
Imagine the presence of a magical circle around you. Entering a magical circle is like walking through a protected, spiritually charged area. It is important to bless your area. Using a sage smudge, in the direction of east, walk sunwise (clockwise) 3 times around the circle as you bless the area. You may also create a sea salt circle. To banish negative energy from your circle, sweep the area with a broom starting from the center and sweeping outward. A suggestion for blessing your circle can be something like,
"Sunwise with this witches' blade
This sacred circle now is made
Elemental spirits of old
I call upon Thee to guard, to behold."

Once the area is charged and blessed, try not to leave it until your spell is complete. NO ONE should walk through this area but it is acceptable for pets. So, if Fluffy happens by, no worries. Sit within your sacred space and center your mind and soul. Envision the white light of the Holy Spirit surrounding you. Start your visualization process and begin your spell. When you are finished repeat the visualization process.
Always end your spells by thanking your Higher Power, such as God, the Goddess, the Great Spirit and the Universe for their blessings and protection. Then, CLOSE the circle. With your sage smudge (and your athame, if you are a witch) and walk widdershins (counter-clockwise) around your circle. You can recite something like,
"O Spirits of Air, I lovingly thank Thee for Thy presence, protection and energy. For now, I bid Thee farewell. Blessed Be." Repeat for the other elemental spirits: earth, fire and water. You can finish with something such as, "In perfect love and harming none, my sacred spellwork is now done. As the future becomes the present and the present becomes the past, as I thank the Goddess and God; I declare my magick is now cast. So mote it be."

Healing Spell Example

Remember, use written words as only a guide. Change or add your own words to it along with your own energy, intent and charged ritual items. Even in healing spells, always PROTECT yourself and your environment.

Suggested Magickal Tools- Start With This

Pen and Paper! Most witches create a Book of Shadows. Always document any spell work you perform. It is a wonderful "journal" for you to look back upon and it is also a helpful tool to recall and track your progress and success. If you are already a witch, you are well aware of my next suggestion. But, if you are a non-witch, the Book of Shadows is for YOUR EYES ONLY and should be kept in secret and of the utmost privacy. You may be wondering, "If I am not a witch, then why should I make it private?" Good question. The answer is you don't want uneducated people or any outsiders to come across your personal workings. It can not only hinder, but harm. Think about your children discovering it at a young age (especially female pre-teens or teens) and attempting such acts with absolutely no knowledge. It can be disastrous to you, them and your environment. It is also important not to allow others to handle your tools, as they may bleed their energy onto your items which can have an influence on your magick.

Using Candles & Colors

Using Color
Color is often utilized with candles. The color white is a pastel combination of all colors because it reflects light with little to no absorption. When in doubt of what color to use or if you don't have the color you want, use white. It is the most highly balanced form of spiritual energy as possible. White is the symbol of the life giving Mother, all female mysteries and the Creative Source. It is light from which all life begins from, the female aspect of God, the Craft of the wise, and the full moon. Learn more in detail about using colors for spells, prayer or blessings.

Pretty candle

Using Candles
Candles can be anointed with essential oils and can also be scored with special symbols or names that represent your goal. Unless the spell you're using as a guide states differently, your candles should be allowed to burn all the way down. Any candles used for decoration or other magick should not be re-lit for use in magick. Also, never use the same candle for different spell work. It is also recommended to light a candle with a match or from another candle. If and when necessary, extinguish a candle using a candle snuffer or wet fingers unless the spell calls for you to blow it out.

Such the Informative Quote:

A Perfectly Worded Quote About Witches

"We are not evil. We don't harm or seduce people. We are not dangerous. We are ordinary people like you. We have families, jobs, hopes, and dreams. We are not a cult. This religion is not a joke. We are not what you think we are from looking at T.V. We are real. We laugh, we cry. We are serious. We have a sense of humor. You don't have to be afraid of us. We don't want to convert you. And please don't try to convert us. Just give us the same right we give you--to live in peace. We are much more similar to you than you think."

Beauty With The Bonus of Natural Power

Stones & Crystals
Photobucket
Inanimate stones and crystals are alive with magical potential. It's hard to believe but it's true! These enchanting objects symbolize our earthly nature that provide a link between the physical world and the mystical realm. Stones should be cleansed with saltwater and energized by gentle tapping or exposure to the light of a full moon.

Oils
Photobucket
Oils not only smell good but can be used for empowerment, blessings, banishings, healing and anointing other objects. They should be diluted with a carrier oil such as almond or vegetable oil. Do this slowly, though, because you want to see how the scents combine. You can also add herbs or crystals to the oil. To banish negative energy or cleanse an area or item, try using oak moss and rue oil.

Example Spell, Suggestions & Ideas

Photobucket
Other suggestions for tools containing natural energies are herbs, foods such as nuts or fruit, flowers, trees and leaves. An example of using a flower for a spell would be to choose the bud of a flower that harmonizes with your goal. Place it in a vase filled with water. Write a spell on a piece of virgin paper (parchment paper) and when the bud blossoms, it represents the magick being "fixed." Once the flower starts to wilt, pour the remaining water outside under the light of the moon. Whatever your spell called for, use the appropriate moon phase if possible. (Banishing or lessening, use the waning moon. Empowering or growth, use a waxing moon.)
Lightning cloud
Doing magick while there is a storm going on is a great idea. Of course, I am not suggesting going outside and risk getting struck by lightning, but a screened or glass enclosed lanai works well. Lightning is electrical energy just as WE are. It gives more power and potency to your workings. Being amidst of nature in any form is always helpful. You are in the presence of nature and become in tune with all the natural energy the environment provides. Remember, your magick is natural energy.

You'll Love NEW AGE PORTAL

I really enjoy this website and you will, too. There are many topics relating to new age practices and beliefs. The first link is the main site and then I provided just a few of the sub topics to check out.

New Age Portal by Morning Star
"Morning Star was created to serve a gateway for all esoteric, spiritual and new age subjects. Inside you will find many topics covered, from astrology to parapsychology, Kabbalah to yoga. Each one begins with a short introduction and features articles, e-books, software and any other useful resources we can find. We also have a new age links directory, which includes only links to the highest quality websites."
New Age Portal- Psychic Abilities
"A psychic is anyone who is able to perform supernatural feats with the power of their mind. When I think of a psychic I always think of telepathy, but actually the term is now often used to refer to a whole group of clairvoyant and mediumistic abilities such as seeing the future, communicating with dead souls, and others. An individual psychic may have one, several or all of these abilities."
Astrology
"Astrology is one of only a very small number of occult disciplines which have gained widespread popularity today.
This section encompasses all of the different traditions, such as Western, Chinese and Vedic astrology."
Parapsychology
"Parapsychology is basically the scientific study of so called 'supernatural' or 'paranormal' phenomena. Practitioners of parapsychology are expected to maintain an open mind as to the reality of such phenomena whilst at the same time remaining skeptical and not succumbing to unsupported beliefs. Common subjects of study include telepathy and other forms of psychic activity, and hauntings and the power of mediums."

Unforeseen Interference: I Hope This Scares You

When Spells Can Go Wrong

Many witches abide by the Wiccan Rede, "An it harm none, do as ye will." This can be taken out of context. It does not necessarily mean do whatever you want as long as it doesn't physically harm anyone. Yes, that is true, but spells can and often do experience what we call "interference." You may think you have it all planned out but you must always think of any possible interference that is out of your control. Let me offer you a quick, true story that will exemplify this concept.
There was a witch who was extremely distraught over her ex-boyfriend getting married. She conjured up a knot spell, meaning she charged the rope as she knotted it. Each knot represented her intent.
After finding out where the ceremony was to take place, she waited outside for the bride and groom to exit the church to great their guests. Beforehand, she used oil and an herbal mixture and circled the waiting limo. When everyone was throwing bird seed, bubbles and streamers at them, she threw the rope making sure it touched at least one of the couples' person. It successfully grazed the bride and she even stepped on it which was an added bonus for the casting witch. This witch not only cursed their marriage but wanted harm and unhappiness to come upon the newly married couple.
At the reception, the bride started choking on food. She was ok, but her throat was quite sore and scratched up inside. One of the guests was a doctor and suggested they take a quick run down the street to the emergency room and make sure she was ok. The doctor insisted on accompanying them because he could get them seen faster. The 3 of them got into the limo and started on their way. Not more than 2 or 3 blocks away from the hospital, the limo was hit by a large truck. The bride and groom survived with only a few bruises and scratches but the doctor was killed from the impact.

This is why, no matter what kind of spell you're doing, it needs to be carefully and specifically worded.

Utilizing the Cycles of the Moon

As many know, the moon has a significant influence on humans, plants and animals. It is a fact that emergency rooms and police are busiest on the day and night of the full moon. It is probably the most important factor for anyone to perform certain acts, make certain decisions and especially doing magick when aligned with the proper moon phase.

Waxing Moon:
This is the period from the New Moon to the full Moon. Use the waxing moon for expansion, growing, building, new projects, protection, and to raise vibrations for enhancement.

Waning Moon:
This is the phase from the Full Moon to the New Moon. This is the best time for lessening, such as decreasing disease or illness or destroying destructive energies. Use this period to rid negative or lower vibrations from your home or life. It is the proper phase to use with neutralizations for situations, memories or other negativities. Just remember

The New Moon:
Use the New Moon for new adventures or beginnings. It is the time for a fresh, new start. It can also be used for cleansing, whether it be ritual tools or an entire atmosphere. Best to start a new job on this day.

Full Moon:
The full moon is a good day to perform many types of more powerful-intended spells and rituals. Never have surgery on a full moon especially if it is in the moon phase of your birth. People tend to bleed more and have other complications on this day. There are actually many doctors that do not do surgery on a full moon.

Final Thoughts for You

I don't want to harp upon some of the other information I have provided in other lenses. However, I do feel the need to always mention using caution with ANY magick, spells, healings or spirit callings upon the deceased.
I do want to mention that if you are ever doing any type of magick (excluding prayer or blessings, of course) and are not a witch, shaman, or have only little or no experience or knowledge regarding rituals, please use extreme caution. It may sound a bit exaggerated or extreme but ask any witch how important the warning is. Personally, I have received calls and emails from people who attempted to use the Necronomicon and other methods of magick only to regret it deeply and/or it went completely wrong.

T here is much involved with using magick. Simply reading a book or two on the subject is certainly not sufficient. There is a reason witches, even natural witches, are trained, educated, experienced and have to earn the respect of the Elders. There is also no over-the-counter spell book authored by a witch that will tell you everything. It may provide the words, chant, tools and other information for a spell but it will never give out the entirety of the process. We are sworn to secrecy after initiation and acceptance into the Craft. With that knowledge, it may make it more clear to anyone inexperienced as to why I emphasize caution. Essence of An American Witch explains a lot more about this.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to leave a comment or ask questions in the comment section. I'd love to hear from you.

I do agree with VenusSatanus below that all magic is shades of grey but to say at the same time that there is black and white magic is contradictory. The exact same spell may work against or for the subject and great care should be taken by the caster of the spell that their intention and state of mind is absolutely clear of any obstacle which might impede the spell.
The same act can be evil to some and beneficial to others, who then judges whether it is good or bad, black or white?
I don't entirely agree with what is in this lens. The Craft as practiced by most I know has no secrets. Discipline yes, secrets - most definitely not.
Even though I don't agree with everything in this lens, it is a very well made lens, interesting and informative. 5* and a sprinkling of Angel Dust
