    Just got back into Squidoo not to long ago after some time away. Things are different with groups than they were before. When I did Squidoo a few years ago, it seemed groups were the best way to get your lense recognized. I'll have to relearn how to increase my lense ratings, but that's not a bad thing.

    Groups are not completely dead though - if you look around Squidoo, you can still find some active and workwhile groups to join.

    Excellent information presented in an outstanding, concise format. I love the Google Search utility. Thanks for doing that for us. I saw your response to the question about the My Groups tab. If it is gone, where does one now find the lists of groups to which one belongs?

    I find that "My Groups" tab on my dashboard has mysteriously disappeared and the two groups that I used to run suddenly listed under my lenses. What happened? Did I do something or ...?

    Finding good groups sometimes can be time consuming. Thanks for sharing this information. I find this lens to be very resourceful. By the way how did you include the google custom search box in your lens. 5** for you.

    On all my groups ALL lenses are FEATURED LENSES - if you satisfy the criteria for being included. That means everyone accepted is out in the open and seen all the time.

    I really do NOT see the point if a group is intended to inform of keeping lenses off the main page. What's needed are more highly focused niche groups which perform a genuine service of collecting together groups of relevant lenses.

    What's NOT needed are groups with huge numbers of lenses that never see the light of day!

    I disagree with you about groups of only your own lenses. I created mine for me so I could find my own lenses easily! Trailing up and down the dashboard trying to find one lens out of 100 is soul-destroying! Mine are grouped into small niche topics. However for every one which is mine only I also have another one on more or less the same topic which is more inclusive of other lenses.

    Thanks Fluff, I knew that there was a major difference between some of the groups; but wasn't sure of all the particulars. This lens cleared that up. Good job as always.

    You have a very good information about groups and good advices on which group to join. Here is one of those group which is actively managed, features all new lensmasters that join, most of their lenses and help to promote your lenses. See and join:

    Oh I so agree with the advice to only join groups that are properly managed. It's a shame that groups that are not active are not "culled" every so often.

    Good info. I agree on those huge groups that aren't topically related. I joined them because I didn't know better, but it's like jumping into the middle of a landfill. Everything gets buried.
    LOVE the gardening groups, art groups, Squidoo-related groups...So many great group lensmasters out there, who keep up on their Group page. Five-star Woot!

    Thanks so much for this, I had a hard time understanding the importance of groups, and knowing which ones to join. I'm going to go "unjoin" the groups I already belong to that allow anyone, and check the rest for the points you mention. The most useful piece of info here was the link to use Google to search. I'd been using a Google search for "site:squidoo.com/groups" but this is much better. I added the link to my bookmark folder for things to do after I make a lens along with the Squidutils ping and places like Squoogle.

    Great info. I was searching all morning for a list of groups on squidoo. Other articles about squidoo groups didn't actually tell me where to find them, just what they etc. I joined squidoo a week ago so I am doing alot of research right now. Thanks for the indepth info.

    Very useful. I run moderated groups (with criteria for admission) and groups of just my own lenses. I get quite a few people who have difficulty telling the difference - and I may well refer them here in future! ;)
