1 - Clean Your Car

It may seem obvious, but not for some - be sure to clean your car both inside and out. Give it a good hoover and empty any ashtrays, wipe the dash, check under the seats etc. Your car will be judged on it's appearance both inside and outside so be sure to make a good impression before the potential buyer takes it for a test drive!
For smokers or dog owners this advice is especially important - nobody likes the smell of stale smoke or picking stray dog hairs off their clothes.
Lastly, don't neglect the boot - get rid of your junk and give it a clean.
If you don't fancy cleaning the car yourself, hire a professional valet instead.
2 - Repair The Paintwork & Remove Dents

It is important that your car looks in tip top condition, which is why you should be sure to repair any problem areas with the paintwork as well as remove any dents and dings. A dent removal specialist should be able to offer a cost-effective service and remove any trace of that dent!
3 - Refurbish Your Wheels

Decent wheels can really add value to your vehicle and may be well worth the investment prior to selling. Kerbed wheels make for a bad impression so it's important to refurbish them effectively. A wheel refurbishment specialist will be able to make them look as good new!
4 - Get An MOT

Vehicles with a new MOT are likely to be more attractive to potential buyers, so consider getting a new MOT. For a low price, you can increase the level of interest in your car when it's for sale and potentially command a higher selling price overall.
5 - Tell The Truth
When advertising your car, be sure to tell the truth. Don't lie about the service history and what's going on under the bonnet. Forgetting the legal implications of mis-selling a non roadworthy car, the truth will out and an honest sale is important.
6 - Find Your Documents

Dig out all of your vehicle documents, including your MOT certificates, service records, registration information and receipts for work. A potential buyer may be keen to see these at their viewing and it's therefore good to have them to hand.
7 - Check The Spare Tyre
Don't forget about the spare tyre, make sure that it is in good condition and is actually in the car! 8 - Set The Right Price
Do some research and identify the going rate for your car, it is important to be realistic. You may also want to factor in the fact that many potential buyers will haggle with the price somewhat.
9 - Complete Basic Checks
Check the tyre pressure, top up the screenwash and oil etc. Complete all of the basic vehicle checks to ensure that your car is good to go.
