Animals are defenseless creatures and should not be used as objects for people to practice their talents on. Something needs to be done to protect these animals that love and trust humans. People need to realize that tattooing a pig is torture to the animal, and that chaining up a dog as a part of an exhibit is inhumane.

Hmmm.... not sure. I do know that the people who watched this are something. It is a horrible thing, but his statement makes it clear that this isn't art at all, but a political statement.

Now, I don't think it is a great political statement, as I doubt those watching this went out and did anything to prevent what would have happened to this dog anyway. So I am not sure that I totally agree with your point, even though you do have a good point.

Your work on this lens and your presentation are excellent. ***** and please note that I am not in favor of what the guy is doing, I just don't think he did it for art.

I have no sympathy for the sick can't say the word you know what I mean. I have 3 dogs and a cat . If I ever saw him on the street I would rip his heart out. You have to be sick in the head to think this crap is art. If it was up to me I would bring back public hangings and he would be first on my list. I hope noone gets offended by anything I am sying. I am speaking as an animal activist and someone who has worked with dogs and cats for over 3 yrs. Thank you for doing something about this atrocity. kylee

This is unfathomable. What an insult to the true artists in our societies. Does anything pass for art these days? It shouldn't.

That's not art. If they tried the same thing with him would everyone say "he was going to die anyway"? Great work on this cause.

Sickening. The 'artist' claims he trying to highlight a plight, but I'm sure he's neither turned down the publicity nor the money he's acquired from this shabbiest of stunts.

Thanks to all who have posted their comments &/or signed the petition... Personally, I've been at a loss for words.
Well, you've all said it for me.
I'm astonished that in posting his own words; he is unable to see beyond the box he so obviously lives in.

well, that's great logic!!!!"Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway."
the artist Guillermo Habacuc Vargas is going to die someday so why not do some art with him! I'm sure all the negativity will come back to him...you reap what you sow.

Great lens. I guess that 'artist' feels he is trying to call attention to a problem. I don't feel activism should take that form. there are other ways to call attention to the problem of stray dogs and their living conditions. One might actually (gasp) try doing something about it.

My daughter and I were horrified to find an article about Damien Hirst while searching current events for a school report. This is NOT art! It is disgusting and cruel. I can't imagine anyone visiting this exhibit and not stepping forward to stop it. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I signed the petition and will help spread the word about it. 5*

Animal abuse and torture is often a signal of greater violence to come. That guy should be locked up.

Animal torture is already cruel, but claiming that animal cruelty may be a form of art, is unbelievable. that would make it... acceptable?
what about the visitors? are they all sick?

I think we should go one step further and boycott the country itself. Here in North America we have hospitals full of people like the artist. They too have visions. Visions of aliens, visions of none existant people, visions of having extraordinary powers. Medication may or may not help.

The true horror of this exhibition is it's sanctification by the people, the government and the country itself.

Do not take your vacation in Costa Rica. Do not purchase any product from Costa Rica. Do not do any business with Costa Rica. Do not boycott Costa Rica silently, let them know why you are no longer going to support their economic growth.

Google business's in Costa Rica and e-mail them with the message why you will not use their product. E-mail the Tourist industry let them no why you will no longer advocate travel in their country.

Petitions are a wonderful tool for bringing awareness to the public. Now it's time to hit them where it hurts, their pockets.

This is disgusting! You wouldn't treat anyone like this so why treat an animal like it? To be honest this shows how cruel humans can be nowadays. Finding something so terrible, 'Art', shows how repulsive some people are. But then again nowhere seems to care if their stray or noone wants them. Homeless people would be another matter wouldn't it. Get locked up for doing something like this. I know im only 16 but this is a terrible way of showing children what art is. If anyone thinks this is art, they seriously belong in a mental institue because this seriously isnt, its basically murder. But who cares about that its not a human..

For one, the dog was stray in the frist place. Why would you pick it up and kill it slower then it should. What if you were homless and hungry, then somone picked you up and let people poke and laugh at you, lever giving you ANYHING at all. How gross.

I am horrified and dumbfounded by an audience complacently witnessing the slow, torturous murder of the quiet creature curled up at their feet asking nothing; still loving toward those without compassion or mercy for him. That photograph is haunting. This is nothing less than state sanctioned, unspeakable human arrogance and cruelty. Shame on the so-called "artist" for his vision and shame on all those who by virtue of their inaction condoned it and made it possible. The blind arrogance of human beings can be utterly terrifying. I am humbled by the grace of this stray dog in his last hours of desperation - we have much to learn from him.

Crazy stuff. They should put the artist on a short leash, tied to a wall in an art gallery and starve him. I'm sure that will be his next installation piece.

You call this art? How is having an animal slowly die of hunger and thirst art? I think that the people who witnessed this kind of cruelty
and visited the gallery and didn't try to save the animal, should be changed. The "artist" and visitors are all cruel people. They should be put away. I feel very sorry for the poor dog. He was probably better off living in the alley...I can't believe that this was allowed to happen. I hope he remembers...what goes around comes around.

Please sign the petition and show your support. Let's do it in his memory.

This kind of stuff breaks my heart! I signed the petition and encourage everyone who has pets or who do not have pets to sign it. Many times people feels this kind of stuff is a waste of time (signing petitions, etc), to possibly save a poor animal is never a waste of time but it gives this animal a chance at life and a chance to be loved. Did you know that most household pets are natural healers? Blessings,
