How and If You Should Be A Guinea Pig Breeder
If you decide that you want to breed your Guinea Pig, there are some important things you need to know. Also a few points to consider if you even should breed your Guinea Pig.
Step One As A Guinea Pig Breeder
The first thing you should do when deciding that you want to be a guinea pig breeder is to select two very healthy guinea pigs of the opposite sex. That goes with out saying, but it is important that your guinea pigs are in the best of health. Since guinea pigs are prone to getting sick fairly easily, this step is your number one concern to ensure that all the babies are healthy. Look for guinea pigs whose fur is shiny and healthy looking without any lost patches. Watch your guinea pigs and note if they have "life " in them or if they seem to be without energy. Bright, shiny eyes are also a clue to good health.

Step Two As A Guinea Pig Breeder
Second you want to be sure that the female guinea pig (the sow) is well under 6 months of age before you begin breeder her. When a show sow reaches 6 months her pelvic bones fuse and although she can still become pregnant, she won't be able to birth the babies.

Put your mates together as soon as possible. guinea pigs must be together for at least a month before they will breed. Once they have bred, it takes approximately 72 days for the babies to be born. Your guinea pig will likely have 1 or 2 but can have as many as 4.
Step Four For The Responsible Guinea Pig Breeder
The last step is the most important! Should you even breed guinea pigs. Before you do be sure you will have homes for them. If you want to sell them, check with your local pet stores to see if they are willing to buy them.
