The Guinea Pig Shop Is Born

After reading a few books on guinea pigs that provided wonderful information on care, we came to the conclusion that no guinea pig should live alone. They are social creatures and we shall not deprive them of their need to be social!

We thought about all the breeds and decided on Texel Guinea Pigs. So we set off to get our two texels from a breeder. I must admit all those cute faces were adorable, but I told myself I would never love a rodent!

The guinea pigs had a few cute mannerisms - they made cute little noises, they would popcorn when they were happy, and they would purr. It was interesting, okay it was fascinating, but I would not love a rodent.

Did I mention that within three months our daughter convinced us to buy another guinea pig? Again, I don't know how she did it, but now we have three.

Then one day the unthinkable happened, I caught myself saying "I love you Ginger." Now all bets were off because not only did I love one rodent, but I loved three rodents. And now all I have to say is "they are not rodents."

As I look back, I wonder why it took me so long to admit I love these guinea pigs? How can you not love an innocent creature whose only defense in the world is to stay still when it is scared? How can you not love a creature that purrs for you when you make it happy? How can you not love a creature that so clearly loves other guinea pigs in their pack. And how can you not love a creature that will make a little train in the room and bounce off one after another squeaking with their back ends making a cute wavy motion as they go? It is just not possible.

Yes, I tried, but those guinea pigs have me. And now I have created a little tribute to them and all the people who love them.
