When I was 7 (too many years ago to count), I wanted a guitar more than anything else in the world. It seemed like I went all year asking for a guitar for my birthday, Christmas or any other holiday I could think of.

But growing up in a family with a tight budget, getting a guitar could just not be budgeted in.



After Christmas had come and gone that year, I had given up all hope of ever getting a guitar. Then unexpectedly, on my 8th birthday, a miracle had happened. Somehow my mom had found a way to get me the guitar I always wanted. It was an old, used Alvarez Acoustic Guitar, I thought it had to be the best beginner guitar there was, and to me it looked like a brand new car on the showroom floor.

After a while, mom could see I was starting to lose interest in it because nobody could teach me how to play. Nobody in my immediate family could play the guitar. Although I did have several cousins and uncles that could play guitars, banjos and almost any other musical instrument you could think of, they all lived at least an hour away and we couldn't afford lessons from someone local.

Then another miracle happened...
