Teach yourself to play guitar: Top 10 Benefits from Video Guitar Lessons

There is no doubt that there's many benefits from having private instruction, but now more than ever you can teach yourself to play guitar using one or more of the guitar lessons DVD on the market today.

Many people have found that learn to play guitar DVD is a viable alternative to the conventional lesson. Here are the top 10 benefits they have found

10. Price

The competition between manufactures of DVD guitar lessons and its close relative, online guitar lessons are steep. And since there are so many companies competing for your dollar, they are packing more and more lessons onto each disc and charging less and less for them. Many companies offer these packages for less than the price of a single private lesson, which makes them an outstanding value.

9. Convenience

You only need to be stuck in traffic once, miss a scheduled private music lesson and still be handed a bill once, to understand the convenience of a guitar lessons DVD. The only schedule you have to follow is the one you set up for yourself. Are you a night owl? Are you an early riser? You take the lesson whenever you want; they're ready for you.

8. Choice

You get to learn what you want to learn. Many private instructors have a focus all their own. Some are hard rockers, some specialize in music theory and some are great with small children. But it's hard to get blood from a turnip: A hard rock specialist might not fit the bill if you want to learn the blues.

If you want to learn to play the blues, you can teach yourself to play guitar with DVDs that teach the blues. You can immerse yourself with lessons that give you all the music theory your heart desires, or choose lessons that focus on licks and playing that devoid of music theory all together; the choice is yours.

7. Quality Teachers

Just because you play guitar doesn't automatically mean your qualified to be a teacher. Most of today's guitar lessons DVD feature teachers that are qualified, and often times accredited, teachers. Many of these teachers are specialist in specific areas of music just as many private instructors are%u2026but again%u2026you get to choose your area of focus instead of being chained to (or loyal to) one private instructor.

6. Instant Recall

A 45 minute private lessons can sometimes be a whirlwind of instruction and concepts of which a student is lucky to grasp and retain two or three bits of information. With a learn to play guitar DVD, you can always go back and review your previous lessons (and there's no additional fee).

5. Set your own pace

If you're one of those lucky people with nimble fingers, great recall and an understanding of music principles, a week might be too long of wait for you to take your next lesson. With guitar lessons on DVDs, you can move on whenever you're ready. Transversely, if it takes you a little longer to grasp concepts or fingerings, you can move on when you're ready, regardless of how long it takes.

4. No judgment

If you're learning how to play guitar chords and it takes you a little while to get use to forming the chords, you don't need to have a judgmental teacher rolling their eyes waiting for you to get it right. If you need to go back and review something you forgot, you don't need to feel like you're testing your teacher's patience. Learning a new lick or concept is a virtue in itself, no one needs the extra pressure of being judged while doing it.

3. Results

The truth is these lessons works. Tens of thousand of guitarists have used these DVDs to learn how to play electric guitar (and acoustic guitar) with the desired results. And additional thousands who have their foundation built off of private lessons have used the guitar lessons DVD to take their playing to new heights and to expand their musical horizons.

2. Sound instruction

The market itself has weeded out those guitar lessons DVD that are not based with sound music principles. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the free online lessons; there's no filter to who or what is posted on the internet.

1. Bonuses

Since the competition is so sharp in the learn to play guitar DVD market, many manufactures are including bonuses with the purchase of their lessons. These can range from discounts on future purchases to free lessons, from free eBooks to guitar related software, and some automatically entered you into guitar giveaways.

Many people have cemented in their minds that personalize instruction from private lessons are the only way one might learn to play an instrument. And, for some people who need someone to give them that kind of attention in order to apply themselves that holds true.

But if you possess self-discipline and determination you can teach yourself to play guitar and discover your musical ability with a learn to play guitar DVD, and reap all the additional benefits and rewards there within.

"Just because you play guitar doesn't automatically mean your qualified to be a teacher". That is so very true. It takes specific and unique qualities to be an efficient teacher. Your system seems to string all the right chords if you'll pardon the pun. Something to consider when I finally set some time aside for realizing one of my life's dream: to play classical guitar.
