The Basics
Guitar tuning is one of the first things a beginner guitarist will learn - and of course it is nessarcary to sounding good when playing. The notes on the guitar are generally tuned to standard guitar tuning: E A D G B E. However, this isn't the only guitar tuning in existence. The guitar is almost limitless in terms of how much you can experiement with it, and because of this many different tunings have developed over the years.
If you are a beginner I suggest learning standard guitar tuning first. After you have mastered this tuning you may want to move on to some alternate types of tunings.
Just keep in mind that if you ever grow stagnant when you are writing songs or messing around on guitar you may want to eventually learn some other tunings to give yourself lots new space to move around in.
