Guitar Tabs

Guitar Tabs make reading music and playing it on the guitar much easier than the conventional musical notation that leaves a guitar player alone to develop his own cord technique.

Especially beginners love the ease with which guitar tabs can be put into practice. But also seasoned guitar players use tabs often to expand their play and copy special cords from guitar greats.

Beginner Guitar Tabs

"WHAT IF YOU COULD LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR QUICKER AND EASIER THAN YOU EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE?"

"What if you could do this without having to read music, learn music theory or play songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb? What songs will you play? Who will you play for?"

TWO SIMPLE BUT POWERFULL SECRETS What I'm about to reveal may seem obvious, but most guitar players simply don't think about this. There are two secrets that determine how fast you will progress on guitar: what you practice and how long you practice. That's it. Pretty simple isn't it? You have probably experienced the effect of this before. The more you practice something the better you get.

THE REAL KEY IS.... The most important factor that determines how fast you will progress on guitar is not the total time you practice, but WHAT YOU PRACTICE. If you take a random approach to practicing you will get random results. Imagine going to the gym and doing some bench presses. Then you hit the pool and do some laps. Next you do biceps curls, hit the steam-room, do a full-out sprint, hit the treadmill and then.... First of all, you'll be lucky to get out of the gym alive. Second, by taking such a random (and dangerous) approach you minimize any benefits you would get from the workout. The same is true of music.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO PRACTICE YOU ARE SABOTAGING YOUR RESULTS.

HOW I DISCOVERED THIS SECRET When I first started to learn guitar I organized each practice session to work on what I wanted to learn and what I needed to learn. I found this to be VERY EFFECTIVE. I continued to modify my approach as my playing improved and my understanding of music increased. When I started teaching guitar, I showed my students this approach. I TESTED and RE-TESTED the FORMULA to find the MOST EFFECTIVE PRACTICE SYSTEM FOR BEGINNERS. I found that every student that used this approach got good results and some got great results. Some students mastered most or all of the material I had given them in their previous lesson. Other students mastered everything, and had gone on to do much more. It was great. I could hear consistent improvement in their playing each week.

Then there were those students that did not follow the practice system. Their progress was slow at best. Sometimes they would hardly remember what was covered in the previous lesson. I would go over the practice formula again and ask if they would just give it a try. Some never would. Others would give it a shot. When they did TRY THE FORMULA, we could both hear improvements in their playing.

YES, YOU CAN PLAY THE GUITAR Guitar Quick Start takes all the guesswork out of learning to play guitar. Each lesson is organized into bite-sized chunks. You learn how to hold the guitar, hold a pick, read chord diagrams, tune the guitar and read tablature. Tablature is A REALLY EASY WAY TO LEARN GUITAR MUSIC. In tablature each line represents a string. A number on a string indicates the fret that you need to place your finger on. It's as simple as that. This means that you can easily translate the notes from a song onto the neck of your guitar.

YOU DON'T JUST READ THIS BOOK-YOU PLAY IT. HEAR IT THEN PLAY IT AUDIO CD INCLUDED.

Lessons 4-14 each start with the practice FORMULA. The formula breaks down each lesson and tells you how much time to spend on each area. No guesswork is involved-ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PLAY. Each lesson covers chords, scales, the fretboard and a song.

In Guitar Quick Start you won't find Mary Had a Little Lamb. Here you will learn to play some blues, rock, folk and country songs. There are however two songs that you probably won't brag to friends about: Irish Washer Woman and Sailor's Hornpipe. The reason they are included here is because they are good technique exercises-you just don't have to play them for anyone other than yourself. You should enjoy playing all of the other songs and probably will start to secretly like Irish Washer Woman and Sailor's Hornpipe once you can play them at a moderate to fast tempo. All songs are of easy to moderate difficulty, and are short and complete. I mention this because some of the other beginner books give you tiny sections of songs. You just get a couple of measures and then it's on to the next example. Here you will find complete arrangements to songs, or in the case of a longer piece you will find an abridgement. I have tried to keep the songs as middle-of-the-road as possible. Obviously there is no way to select songs that every guitar player will like. The songs included here have been selected because they are FUN TO PLAY, will improve your technique, or allow you to apply concepts covered in the lessons.

A SUPER SHORTCUT Although there are many guitar chords, certain chords are used over and over again. When you "get your hands on" Guitar Quick Start you will learn the most important chords. Once you know how to play these chords you will be able to PLAY THOUSANDS OF SONGS.

I will never forget the goose bumps I got when I played my first song. I can remember it just like yesterday. There really is nothing quite like playing the guitar. Are you ready to discover the SIMPLE FORMULA FOR SUCCESS? You can ACCOMPLISH IN 30 MINUTES WHAT OTHER GUITAR PLAYERS TAKE 1, 2 OR MORE HOURS TO ACHIEVE. This is a great system to learning to play the guitar. I can now play the guitar! I learned to play faster than I expected. Definition of 'Guitar Tab'

Definition of 'Guitar Tab' according to wikipedia:

"Guitar tab consists of a series of horizontal lines forming a staff (or stave,) similar to standard notation. Each line represents one of the instrument's strings therefore standard guitar tab has a six-line staff and bass guitar tab has four lines. The top line of the tablature represents the highest pitched string of the guitar. By writing tablature with the lowest pitched notes on the bottom line and the highest pitched notes on the top line of the tablature tablature follows the same basic structure and layout of Western Standard Notation.

The following examples are labelled with letters on the left denoting the string names, with a lower-case "e" for the high E string. Tab lines may be numbered 1-6 instead, representing standard string numbering, where "1" is the high E string, "2" is the B string etc.

The numbers are written on the lines represent the fret used to obtain the desired pitch. For example, the number 3 written on the top line of the staff indicates that the player should press down at the third fret on the high E (first string). Number 0 denotes the nut - that is, an open string.

For chords, a letter above or below the tab staff denotes the root note of the chord."

Guitar Tabs for Popular Hits

Led Zeppelin Classics (Authentic Guitar-Tab)

This book is for real, unlike the "Complete" book which is tabbed incorrectly. I've been playing now for 17 years and this book will give you all the intricacies of the songs chosen. With one technical exception: and this is for true authentic players, the tab to "bron-y'aur stomp" is presented as a capoed song in open F. On the Led Zep DVD however, Page plays this uncapoed in open G.
All others seem to be right on. Well worth the money.
I highly recommend this book. And it has the complete solos too. -- Douglas B. Friedrich "Doug in NY" (New York, NY)

These tabs are terrific!! I just can't believe that "Over the Hills and Far Away" was not one of the offerings. Worth the money despite this flaw. -- Kimberly A. Sodano (Tucson, AZ USA)

The book is beutifully designed with the most intricate notes possible. When looking at it, you feel as if an entire orchestra can be created from it. They did a brilliant job with making it as close to the real sound of Zeppelin as possible. However, it is certainly not for begginers. if you are a great musician already and want to play Led Zeppelin, this is the book for you. -- Jesse Sirkus-Brown

Guitar Total Scales Techniques and Applications: Lessons for Beginner through Professional

"...pure playing with basic scales and also tons of cool exotic scales that intermediate and advanced players will really enjoy ...tons of cool guitar techniques ...a rare resource that you'll use far more than you might anticipate." ---Guitar Digest Magazine

"For beginner to expert... every position on the guitar and all the ways to use them..." ---Music Connection Magazine

Well, I bought this book when I was just starting and when I opened It seemed to me so hard. Well, I decided not to leave it behind and I started to practice. I can tell that the information in the first 30 pages will keep you busy for so long time. Mastering just the first scales and their applications will teach your left hand how to travel up and down the neck of your guitar. I still use those first applications to warm up. As I'm still more related with acoustic guitar, some applications (like hammering) I can say are not so useful, but, with the electric guitar, are incredible. Take this book, a lot of patience, hard work and you'll see results. -- Luis Carlos Solano (San Jose, Costa Rica)

The Colossal Guitar Songbook (Guitar Tab Collection)

An amazing collection of 61 guitar classics from rock'n'roll, R&B, classic rock, funk, hard rock, country and modern rock genres. Includes: American Woman - Best of My Love - Carry On Wayward Son - Crazy Train - Don't Fear the Reaper - Every Breath You Take - Fame - I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man - Layla - Money - My Girl - Owner of a Lonely Heart - Signs - Tears in Heaven - This Love - Walk This Way - White Room - more!

I bought this book and two others for my brother-in-law for his birthday. He is a tab reader, and said that what he liked most about this book and the others is that the chords are given on the first page of the piece, and which version of the chords are used for the piece - for those of you who don't play the guitar, this merely means that you can make the same chord by arranging your fingers in different ways on the guitar, and the book shows you the best one for the song. He told me that he can go over the cords before reading the tab and that makes it much easier for him, that extra prep before he gets into the song. From what he says, this is not common, but it is a plus for a tab style book which makes it a better purchase. -- K. Denyse "babyjenks" (Providence, RI)

Student Acoustic Guitar

A good guitar for kids to start

With the First Act Discovery 30" Student Acoustic Guitar you can start your child on the path to a lifetime's enjoyment of music.

The First Act student acoustic guitar is designed especially for children to learn and grow on. Its steel reinforced neck prevents warping, twisting and snapping. The steel neck also allows the neck to be thinner which makes the guitar easier to hold for a child's smaller hand.

Steel tuning gears provide longer lasting tuning. The guitar comes with a zero fret for easier play action, scratch resistant pick guard and a beautiful, hi-gloss sunburst finish.

First Act Discovery FG130 Student Acoustic Guitar

After reading the reviews listed here, I felt compelled to write one of my own. I too purchased one of these guitars for my child who showed an interest in the same. I thought this would be a great beginning for her instead of buying one, or renting one for lots of money just to maybe find out later she didn't like it. So far, I have had no trouble with this product, however, I have taught my daughter to handle the guitar with care eventhough it was labeled a "toy".
It's durability could be made a little better, however, it is apparent the instrument was built with affordability in mind. In short, the wood seems very fragile, however it is small and light for children.
As for tuning the guitar, I had it tuned by a professional who had no trouble doing the same, and concurred it was a good start for my daughter without having a lot of investment. He also showed me how to tune it myself so I may also show her, and to avoid the possible risk of her or I snapping the strings.

I believe the hardest part in teaching guitar to a child, is knowing what book to buy! After careful research and discussion with others, I would recommend purchasing First Act's Learn & Play Guitar book & video which is an excellent resource for the very, very beginner. After that, I recommend buying other books as the child progresses at a music store with professional recommendation.
In summary, I feel this product is a good starting point for children and their parents alike, however, please understand eventhough it is labeled a "toy", the guitar still needs to be handled with care, and if tuned too tight, the strings will break as with any guitar. In all, I feel it is a good product for children provided they know how to respect it. I will keep you posted on its'performance. -- Stephanie (Upstate NY)
