Don't be discouraged because your hands don't work the way you need them to immediately. It will come! I promise! Just don't give up, this guide to learning guitar is here to help you!
So you want to play guitar?
Before I give you any real information in this guitar learning guide, let me give you some background info on how I got into playing the guitar.
I was 13 years old when I decided I wanted to play guitar. I had saved 100 dollars in birthday money and told my dad that we had to go to the music store. If you've been in the guitar market for long, you know that 100 dollars does not go very far.
What I settled on (actually, what was my only option) was a Squire Bullet, used, with a broken bridge. This is an electric guitar, but I could not afford an amp.
Here is where I hit my first road block. Playing guitar is harder than it looks! Sure I had a cheap and broken guitar that was poorly adjusted. I could have blamed my lack of success on that, and I did to people who heard how horrible I sounded.
But here is the first and most important part of learning to play an instrument:
Do it every day! No excuses. Just play, even if you don't think you're getting better. When I started out, I used to play for hours. Sure, it sounded bad and a lot of times I was just playing nonsense. But I enjoyed every second of it.

Where do I start? This Guitar Learning Guide!
A funny thing happens when you start getting good at guitar. Everyone wants you to teach them how to play! I've even considered giving lessons, But here's why I never recommend people who are just starting out try and take guitar lessons:
Guitar lessons are really expensive. The going rate around here is about 50 dollars for a half hour! Do that weekly and that's 200 dollars a month. Who can afford that?
And this is why I believe so many people I talk to who want to learn guitar (and a lot of times have a guitar) never ever learn how. Lessons are completely out of their reach, so they don't think there's any other way to learn.
Well, they're wrong. I've never taken a formal lesson in my life.
With the internet, you have access to unlimited information about playing the guitar.
There's two ways you can approach this. You could try to piece everything together from all kinds of different websites and teach yourself with no real direction. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's how I started out, but you end up picking up bad habits and creating your own techniques which aren't always efficient or good for your joints.
The way I would recommend is finding a system online, and sticking with that. Yes, you have to pay for them but you only have to pay once and they almost always cost less than one lesson.
Once you buy the system, you have access to it for life. I recomend this over buying instruction books, because you have access to videos and a lot of times backing tracks.

Why are videos so important?
Because it's the only way you'll learn the proper technique. Seeing it done in a video is a lot more beneficial than reading a description, or looking at a picture.
Here is a program I highly recommend, one that changed my playing and pulled all the pieces together for me.
Seriously, once you have direction and stick to a lesson plan, you take off and start playing better very quickly.
Guitar Success program
The guy who created it is a professional guitar instructor and he's very helpful. The email and phone support are phenomenal and the videos and instruction are great. I highly recommend this program.

On top of that!
Learning theory is important, and it's the best way to improve, but you gotta have some fun too.Take some time after every lesson and learn to play a song!
www.mxtabs.net
Once you learn to read guitar tabs (tablature) head over there and look up your favorite songs. You might be surprised how easy some of them are!
Finally wrapping this thing up...

Practice every single day, and I promise within a year you will be impressing your friends and family!

Disclaimer: Guitar lessons are very beneficial if you can afford them. The point I was trying to get across is that if you can't afford lessons, buying a program like the one recommended is a better solution that going to bargain lessons, which in my experience are never beneficial.
