Guitar Lesson Introductory

Life Was Not Made to be All Work

Welcome to this Guitar Lesson!

This lesson takes the form of an Introductory, with thoughts and plans for the future.

We are looking
** at reviewing guitar courses
** recommending a guitar course
** starting off with basic chords
** perhaps some simple songs to sing.

I hope you will find learning how to play guitar an exciting experience.

Reading and playing from written guitar music can be a daunting task and we will try to make this as painless as possible.

This course naturally will be spread over time - and as time permits.

However if you want to get straight in to learn guitar, with fully professional tuition and materials, then for only a few dollars (it's surprising how
prices have fallen) as a one-time
payment for life, you can get the complete course all in one attractive package.

Alternatively you can download it and save heaps, and you could be learning A FEW MINUTES FROM NOW.

Learn more, and perhaps jump in!

Guitar Lesson - Basic Chord A

Easy Does It

Our aim to begin with is a very simple one, and that is to have you sharing your guitar music with your children ( if you don't have any just now you could use your imagination ).

Please do not feel embarrassed over such a humble beginning. A jazz orchestra let by Johnny Dankworth played "Three Blind Mice" - a very simple tune but transformed by human imagination.

Also to this day i remember the excitement of "Little Brown Jug" as interpreted by the Glenn Miller orchestra (a lot has happened since then of course in music (and especially in guitar music).

Practising scales is very important if you wish to really learn guitar and progress with your instrument, but scales are not the beloved of everyone, therefore we will go the more interesting route for starters.

This section comes under the heading Guitar Basic Chords in preference to Guitar Main Chords, because it is my opinion that open strings do not appear in main chords - but we will get to more of that a bit later on.

"Chords" in these lessons are also called "patterns" and "shapes".

So let's start with A. E7 and D will follow in succeeding lessons to give us the basic chords for the 12-bar blues. Once you have these it is practically limitless the tunes you can invent.

In learning how to play guitar we will have to steer clear of using copyrighted material.

The next guitar lesson will continue on with the topic of the chord of A.

I want to start now!

Guitar Lesson - Basic Chord A Part II

In the above guitar music, the top line, or staves, carry the standard sheet music notes. There are 4 bars, and each bar has four beats which you can tap out with your foot.

The 6 notes in the first bar are to be played one on each of the 6 strings. You hold the notes for 4 whole beats. All the notes belong to the chord of A, which are A C# E.

Let's have a look at the rest of the music for this guitar lesson.

Next we play the same chord 4 times, once for each beat in the bar.

The last 2 bars are similar to each other. You have a base line played on the first and third beats, and a middle chord accompaniment on the second and fourth beats.

In a group, the bass player would be playing the bass line, the middle line would be held by another musician. If there was a melody the lead guitar would be playing that over the other two.

Typically for a one-man show, the melody is sung. The melody could be played if the performer was proficient enough. Solo guitar is much more difficult in the main than being a member of a group.

In guitar music where there is an 'x' against a string that string is not to be played.

You have a couple of choices in how to play guitar in the last 2 bars -

1. use a pick only
2. use fingers only, where the bass line is played using the thumb of your right hand, and the middle chord played using the 4 fingers.
